Since COVID, my lifestyle has changed to where I’m able to wear athletic shorts pretty much every day. Back when I was in the office, carry wasn’t really a problem since I always wore a belt, and in the winter, it wasn’t out of place to wear a cover garment.

These days, it’s pretty much belly band or bust for me, but even then, there are days I don’t have a loose enough shirt to put on the band or the heat/humidity are uncomfortable to wear it (I understand…cue CC’s “comforting, not comfortable” mantra). I’ve heard some are able to pocket carry in athletic shorts, but I can’t get it to work without shanking myself.

My smallest carry is a P230, but thinking of getting something Hellcat/P365 sized at some point. Wouldn’t be opposed to a smaller .380 either. I’m about 5’7”, 180 lbs.

So the options I see from here:
1) different wardrobe
2) different holster option
3) different (hopefully smaller and lighter) gun
4) suck it up, Buttercup - go with what you got

I’m currently exploring option 2 because it seems simplest, but for those who have made similar transitions or are thinking of it, how did you do it / how would you do it?

Fanny pack? That's what I ended up doing for pretty much everything I'd normally have in my pockets when wearing that sort of shorts.

Normally I carry an LCP but it was getting lost in my cheapo fanny pack so I generally move to a Glock 19 when I use the pack.

I’ve been hearing a lot about fanny packs lately. It’s funny - I feel like it’s a thing, but I’ve been on the lookout, and I never see anyone carrying them around! I’ll definitely look into them.

If I wear a black shirt mine blends into my gut, so there's that.

I didn’t list the option of getting a bigger one of those. Might definitely be worth considering for my instance…😅

I learned how to tie a new kind of slipknot that I hadn't known about before. Its really good for a drawstring. Works perfectly for carrying an lcp max in the front pocket of gym shorts.

small 380 in your favorite flavor with a small minimalist holster with a versa clip. I’ll post a pic of mine when I get home this afternoon.

You can wear a belt, and use a proper holster, even with athletic shorts if you want. I’ve done it with PJ/lounge pants when taking the dog out.

Also check into Kangaroo carry. Somewhat like a belly band, but worn higher…and with a shoulder strap to help with the weight of the firearm. I used one for the first several years when I started carrying.

There is one company (can’t remember) that makes athletic shorts that are made to better support pistols. That coupled with the neomag that is made to clip onto athletic shorts would be the best combo IMHO.

You can get a belly band holster. Only drawback is they soak up a lot of sweat if you’re really active.

Once they get broken in, they will start to move around while you are active as well.

Not a end all be all but a Enigma by Phlster is great for athletic short carry. Use it when I'm more "out and about" or doing more physical things but a Raven concealment vanguard with my glock 26 or Sticky holster for my S&W m49 and Adidas shorts works great for around the house.

Forgot about the minimalist holsters

I’ve got one for p365 that works great

I carry a Taurus TCP .380 in an Uncle Mikes soft holster. I can carry it inside my underwear if needed. If wearing short I typically carry a P365. Gotta keep the weight of the gun and ammo down.

Daily trek to the gym (and honey can you run to the store......). In gym sorts, I carry a 'plain Jane' P365 in a simple Blackhawk/uncle mikes nylon holster (IWB). Cinch the drawstring tight and I haven't had any problems with that set-up.

Arrowhead Tactical makes the shorts I was referring to.

I'm planning on getting one of these to carry an MP Shield in 45acp

I picked up an LCP Max recently. It's great with a Sticky holster in appendix position wearing cotton athletic shorts around the house. Of course, it's good in a pocket too. It's weight is like half what the old Glock 43 was.

This as far as the belt. I go walking several nights a week and I'm typically wearing shorts or swimming trunks, either way they're not holding up much weight. So I just took an old belt and cut it where it just fastens but there's not but an inch or so of overlap so there's no tongue hanging down and wear it under the waistband of my shorts, I carry a 442 in a paddle holster on my hip. With a baggy t shirt no one notices and it works for walking or riding a bike.
