I've always had a CB in my vehicle but I find that most new vehicles have very limited space for any accessories. For example my F150, roomy but everything needs to be built in. Even under the dash is almost impossible due to size, sound issues, etc... There's no center console but I do have room under the seats.

I've looked handhelds but they lack power. They still need to be stored, so they might not be the best solution.

I like the remote head units but I'm not convinced they are good on the sound department.

Anyone else that has solved this? No, this does not wake me up at 3am.

I'm amateur radio operator, many of us use the remote head and display options on mobile radios.
The uniden on your list looks good, many of us also use remote speakers too.
I tapped into the power line for the power seat and fused it to the mobile radio.

You're correct in that mounting options are problematic. Not only is there no space, the molded plastic is usually curvy making the placement of a mounting bracket difficult. Really, it's in the manufacturer's interest to make after market equipment difficult to install, so they can sell it themselves. It's just that radio operators are certainly a minority.

For a clean install, a remote head one is your best bet. You will probably want to add an external speaker, though.

I have a Cobra with the remote head, it's gotta be close to 20 years old and still works like a champ. I do have a remote speaker which helps greatly. It's about the only option.

I've looked handhelds but they lack power. .

The handheld mentioned above is 4w, legal limit for CB operations on AM. A handheld with an external antenna should work just fine BUT that Uniden looks like a nice option. Mount it under the seat and hang the mic somewhere. I'm half tempted to pick one up myself for highway trips

I would stay away from that anytone radio or any other rigs that require "modifications" to get into the CB band. They are not part 95 accepted and are technically illegal to use in the CB bands which is why you have to modify it to get there.
