My phone's startin' to crap out & I need a new one. Been using a Motorola Razor Mini for the last 6 or 7 years & don't need or want anything fancy. I'm a bit of a Luddite & struggle to do much more than fat-fingering a reply to a post on here. I don't "do apps" or banking or uploading videos on my phone & refuse to FB on it. I make/receive calls, text a little, check my email when I get an alert & surf this joint on my breaks at work.

We've got Verizon & looking at their phones, I'm confused. I only looked at Apple, Motorola & Samsung & while Apples had higher average reviews, all of them had several really horrible reviews. I'm much more concerned with battery life, signal strength & reliability, than I am a bunch of features that my technologically challenged self won't even attempt to learn to use.

What do y'all recommend? We've been happy enough with Verizon & not looking to change 4 phone lines over. Just want a phone that Mongo can use & will survive more than a year or 2.

Buy a used iPhone or older close out. They are easy to use and have much better privacy protections than the Android universe. IMHO

I have an iPhone SE, mainly because it fits in my front pocket, and getting ready to replace it with the cheapest thing Verizon has in the way of Apple, and that’s an iPhone 8. $450 And it will still fit in my pocket.

The iphone 11 is actually a pretty good deal if you are doing payments. Cheaper than the 10 and a good equipment upgrade on the 10. I’ve run iPhones for years and have 4 on my plan. No serious issues to speak of. Wish I had waited for the 11 to upgrade though.

Also, if you have a Sam’s membership pay attention to their sales. You can get gift cards for upgrading. $2-300 if you wait them out.

Wife's iPhone4 was great till it died. As in died so hard, she lost everything on it. Techy dude at the Verizon store couldn't even re-start/re-boot it. Definitely easier to use (for me) than her current Samsung J7. Size is also a concern- if I can't carry it in my front pocket, I'm not interested.

Be prepared to pay more for iPhone lightening cables.
Consider unlocked Nexus 6P on Amazon.
I use a discontinued Nexus 6, got it on Amazon unlocked NIB.

I back mine up on iCloud. My first smartphone was a Blackberry. It died in a year and lost everything. The next was a Samsung Galaxy S. It died in 18 mos. And lost everything. I’ve had two iPhones, and the family has had maybe six iPhones between the kids and spouse and no failures (as long as they didn’t go swimming with them)

Another thing to consider is an Iphone with Apple care. I get it and get them to replace my 1 year 8 month old phone with a brand new one. Which I then keep for a year +. Also with an iPhone always go to the Apple Store for problems under warranty. They know how to fix them if it can't be fixed immediately they will replace it with a new unit. #goodmargins

Trying to read up on iPhones 7,8 & XR on Verizon's site now.

I don’t think I can even get a 7 with Verizon. I’d look at the 8, and anything else you see you like. I go in the store to see what the size actually looks like.

My latest is a Samsung Galaxy J7 Sky Pro. I got it on Amazon for about $70 and it's a TracFone. It does everything I need it to. I'm not going to pay hundreds of dollars for a phone.

I got a moto e 5 at Consumer Cellular. $80 bucks full price and only $30 a month. This is the first time I've never been a Verizon customer. I've had it for about 6 months now and so far so good.

on the 'cheep' look at evay for tracfone can buy a phone and one year of service in the 150 range choice of smartphones galaxy etc.

one year card with minutes in the 90 buck range.
my last one is a4g j5 galaxy on my second year now.
unsure if tracfone offers Iphone combos....

They're showing the 7 & 7+ as available online. The glass construction of the 8 makes me a little nervous for some reason. A case is a given, but stuff happens, especially to me it seems.

My wife has an 8. I never really paid attention to the case construction. The back (and front of course) might be glass, but the sides (frame) appears to be metal.

(I just looked at hers)

I've got the 11 and it's definitely growing on me. I can heavily use it all day and still not be lower that 30% power. Good size and fast.

I detest Apple's operating system with every fiber of my being. I'm forced to use one at work. I don't wanna.

My personal is a pixel 3 and I love it.

Samsung is nice if you can get past or disable some of their proprietary useless apps that they make impossible to remove.

iPhone 8 or above can charge wirelessly. Which is nice. Pixel 3 does as well.

What's different between Apple & Android? Being able to take better pictures would be nice, as would some kind of music capability. My iPod's circling the drain as well & it'd be nice if the phone could take over those duties.

Completely different operating system. Android, to me, is intuitive. And it may just be what you're used to.

For music I subscribe to Google Play music and have the world at my fingertips. Same can be done with Spotify, iTunes or the like as well.

Ford vs Chevy.....that's the difference in apple vs Droid... you'll have your fans for each and they will swear theirs is the best.

I have a Motorola g7. I like it. It's a pretty decent phone for the money ($300). I'm typing this on it now. It's a Droid phone which is what I prefer.
My main turn off from Apple is NO SD CARD SLOT!
I don't want cloud back up. They are my pictures and my files and I want them on my card!
I'm on total wireless....which uses Verizon towers....and I pay $85 a month for 3 lines. Unlimited talk, unlimited texts, share 60GB data....which I have yet to come close to...and that's watching YouTube vids for an hour a day on it!

I’ve been very impressed with the iPhone XR camera. Apparently the 11 is better. I bought a DSLR a while back for work pics and family stuff. All I use is my phone now.

I use Spotify because it’s what my kids prefer. Great for music and has a lot of podcasts too.

If you get a newer phone just get a wireless charging dock and put the cables in a drawer.

My pixel 3 has 64 GB on board and cloud based storage unlimited. If an on board giant SD card is a requirement then Samsung is your best bet.
If your pecker pics can go on the cloud then pixel 3 would be a solid choice.
(I bought a lightly used model here just recently).
My pecker pics now belong to Google.
Just sharpie a smiley face on it and no one will get offended.

Been an iPhone user for years now. I’m currently using an XR and it’s my favorite phone so far. Excellent battery life and the screen is bigger that the “+” iPhones but the phone itself is physically smaller so it’s not difficult to carry in a front pocket.

Samsung S10e here. My 3rd. Had a 4 and 7 previously.
I'm partial to Samsung because the S4 was huge hit for a component I designed.

I only looked at Apple, Motorola & Samsung
I've got a Moto-Z and I am pretty happy with it. I too detest "Fruit" products and I like Samsung phones, but wasn't going to pay the >$1K price for it so I compromised. I don't like LG, I tried one and it was a piece of junk.

My wife and I are both tech challenged. The iPhones are just pretty simple to use. I have a company issued 8+ and just bought my wife a new XR for Christmas because her 6 started having issues after 4 years. Bought it new and unlocked at Best buy for 600. All our personal phones are prepaid. Wife and 2 daughters.

If you just want a cheapo that does the basics, get something like an Aristo or whatever. Mine was free when I signed up for Ghetto PCS.

Even the cheapest of phones have decent cameras and enough power on board to serve basic old guy needs.

Try the Google Pixel. Nice with lots of features, a camera just as good as the hotshot Apple 11pro, at less than half the cost. Best feature? Google DOES NOT LOAD THE PHONE WITH BLOATWARE. Only the OS and dialing/texting features. I love the 3Axl but have heard the 4 is very nice, too.

I’m about to list a pixel 3 XL from Verizon.

Not yet. Old one's still gimping along & busy with other crap for now. I'm gonna hafta to go to Best Buy or something & finger-bang a couple to see what works best.

I wasn’t paying attention to this thread. Did you sell a 3XL or have one for sale?
