Ok guys here's the rules.

Must be a 22lr rifle. A bench is fine or prone. Bipod in the front and bag in the rear. None of those fancy front rests with all the adjustment( I'm fine with a normal bag in the front).

Target is at 50yds. You must hit the main body or wing in order for it to count as a hit( 51% of the bullet on the fly counts). Please post pics of your setup and targets. Contest will end on August 31st. Any questions please ask.

I'm going to go ahead and say it first. I can't afford the ammo for that one. :p

Oh yeah...I meant to ask, what size shot closest resembles 22LR holes.

I am not sure I have enough 22lr. I am down to 20 thousand rounds:D

@BigWaylon I am thinking 00 buckshot!

Printed out a couple of targets. I wonder if I can see the target using peep sights. I would like to shoot my Stevens 416 (US Property). It is my favorite rifle to shoot. A gift from my father n law many, many years ago.

Why can't we have 2 classes........open sights and scoped?

Has anyone shot these flies yet? I am hoping to get out at the end of the week.

I just hope it cools off enough to want to try.
I hate sweating on my gun.:)

I gave it a try this afternoon. I don't have a scope on any of my .22's so I shot my Henry lever action with iron sights. I used a bag up front and hoped for the best! I got 4 kills!!!! This is a very busy target and is hard to see where your at. I used a 16 power scope on a different rifle to try and keep track of my shots. I hope to get another .22 soon and set it up with a scope.phone pics 136.jpg phone pics 137.jpg phone pics 138.jpg phone pics 141.jpg I did have fun. Thanks for letting me take part.

Neat. I did not have a chance yet do to weather. In fact I was suppose to RSO today and we closed the range do to flooding. Going to try for Wed. while the grandson is here.

Am I missing one? I'm only seeing 3, all in the bottom right quadrant of the target. I see a minor contact closer to the top left, but definitely not >50% of the bullet hit. nevermind...at least two of us are blind

I'm still hoping to try it before the month is over...just not sure when or where.

I got a three count also. Looks like it is going to be tough with iron sights. Scope should be much better.

I'm hoping to get out some this week, depending on the weather. I'm also planning on trying it with iron sights and with a scoped rifle. That'll be several of us shooting with iron sights, should be interesting.

I plan to do both also. Will be interesting trying to separate the flies with iron sights

might give this a try over the weekend, haven't given the Stevens target rifle any exercise lately.........

With iron sights? I'd stand a better chance with #4 buck at that distance.

One in the upper left also.
You're right. I was thinking there was an open area between the wings...but that's where the rest of the body is...doh!!

4 it is!!

You know I do not know how many times I looked at that target and did not realize the body comes back between the wings

I typed the same thing over an hour ago and never hit Post Reply.

It was hard to keep track of the shots looking through my other rifle and then trying to adjust where to shoot. Very busy target, nothing is in line! But is was fun! I will keep trying.

25yds would be better for iron sights

I've been so busy lately that I haven't been able to get out to shoot but I'm gonna try

So I did shoot today. Will post pics later. I shot iron sights -Stevens 416 X barrel and Ruger 10/22 stock barrel with scope. With iron sights I could not even see the flies, just a black blur. I just shot the at the paper and hoped I think I hit one. (Targets are in the van.) With the Ruger I did much better.

Someone had mentioned iron sight at 25 yards I tend to agree. Not sure if I will be able to get back out before the end of the month, but I definitely want to try the iron sights again.

Well....I got out and pulled the trigger some. Not very happy with the results, but I've never done this kind of shooting before. Those flies are not as forgiving as a squirrel is.

I believe it's 4 hits from my scoped Marlin Glenfield single shot. Didn't hit anything with my Model 60 w/ iron sights from 25 yards, but everything was consistently high so I might re-zero it and shoot again. I think I might have dialed up the magnification to much on the single shot, so I might try it again with the magnification dialed down. None of this was shot with match ammo. Mini-mags for the single shot and Federal AutoMatch for the Model 60 (which is the combo I usually squirrel hunt with).

I stayed out because my only 22 rifle is an old Winchester single shot bolt action. Definitely no scope mounts... I'm thinking I should give it a go now. I really didn't even think it would be possible to make out the individual flys at 50 yards.
