I am running a .458 Socom barrel with an extremely tight chamber, the gun has roughly 40-50 rounds through it and it’s been cycling a bit better after each use but it’s still not going fully into battery 3-4 times per magazine.

Should I just keep shooting it to see if it gets better or should I go ahead and ream the chamber?

I found a place online that I can rent a .458 Socom hand reamer, go & no go gauges for $42 so it isn’t cost prohibitive to get the tools, I’m Competent enough to build ARs and can read & follow directions but I’ve never done any chamber reaming so I’m not sure if should even consider doing it.

Thoughts?

Here is where I can rent the tools.

if it's chambering and cycling at all, I would try polishing the chamber with a 20ga bore mop and some type of polishing agent. You can use baking soda, nu finish, car polishing compound, etc and put the mop on a drill at low speed. It's so easy to do in an AR I would try it before anything else.

The thing about SOCOM is it's not a SAAMI cartridge, so there really are no 'standards' for something as precise as a reamer.

Do the polish thing, get a few more rounds on it and see how it goes from there.
