I currently have a Remington 700 with a magpul stock but I am contemplating swapping for a different bolt gun. The primary purpose would be hunting so I would like it a little bit lighter. I am looking for it to take the ai style mags and threaded. Currently I have been looking at a Ruger American Predator but I am open to different suggestions.

For the price and the weight, I really like my Ruger American in 308. Great lightweight hunting rifle. Likes 150 grain projectiles and 168 Federal GMM.

I’ve shot it out to 800 at frontline with handloads and it’s performed well. It’s a Ruger Gunsite Scout 16.5” with a full length XS rail system. It’s currently got a Sig Optics 1-4 on it and shoots lights out.

I LOVED my Ruger Scout, but it got really heavy hauling around the woods.

I'm thinking swiss cheese the aluminum bedding block and chop the barrel on the gun you have, and you'll get where you want.
It is the Remington 700 sps and already has a thick 16in barrel so I am unable to shorten it.
