Picked this up at a local True Value hardware store on impulse. Have used twice and it kicks ass. Think it was $7.99. I 'll report back if and when it fails. But so far it is better than buying starters all the time. Soak it in lighter fluid or lamp oil for 10 mins. Put a little charcoal in, light, add the rest of the charcoal and done. Take out the next day when coals are cool. Use again. Looks untouched.

I've got a deal called a Looftlighter. I can have a charcoal grill ready for cookin in just over 5 minutes, sooner if you use a leaf blower. Just sayin...

I do a chimney as well. What i found is putting a chimney on one of those coleman propane single burners will light it up nice in 3 mins then just wait for the smoke to stop

I don't care for the lighter fluid.

I stocked up on some charcoal since Lowes Hardware had it on sale for $9.98 for 2 18 pound bags.
If it's still on sale tomorrow, I may get some more...

I use a chimney starter....

Another neanderthal! Geez. :D

BTW. It soaks in about 2 ounces of light fluid. Just enough to fire up the magic.

I use a chimney starter, but I got a gift one Christmas of a "LooftLighter." It looks like an oversized curling iron. It has an electric heating element and a fan; you touch the end of it to the charcoal so the heating element can ignite a chuck of charcoal, then the fan blows it into an inferno.

It takes WAAAY too long on its own, but if the chimney is acting sluggish? You can whip that smolder into Hiroshima in a few exciting moments!

My wife won't let me use anything other than our chimney's. I used to use charcoal lighter fluid all the time.

Gotta admit...the chimney's take ALL the lighter fluid odor out of the equation.

But boy, do I miss the days of "WHOOSH!".

*sigh*

Ok, so you can't use fluid on the charcoal...

There is a solution to missing the "WHOOSH!", you're just being creative enough! :D
