Anybody have experience with these in 9 and/or 40?

I'm not really a wheelgun guy. I mainly shoot .40, but also have 40-9 conversion barrels, so I also shoot some 9mm.

Just looking for another very different option to send some lead downrange, and maybe carry as a BUG. I like the fact these don't require moonclips of any kind.

I I know there are some other options out there for both 9 and 40, but I haven't found another "pair" of the same model revolver where neither need moonclips, especially at a decent price.

Any input?

I've got the 40 and like it. I like not messing with moonclips. Very accurate. Probably shot 600-800 rounds though it with no issues.

Stainless? Or Blacknitride?

My problem right now is finding the Blacknitride versions. I'd rather buy both at once, and the .40 doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere. I've found the 9, but not locally or at the right price online. In the meantime, knifeman32 is going to keep an eye out for me with his distributors.

I even considered buying the stainless and having them Cerakoted, but that gets pretty pricey...especially when there's a factory option available.

When I bought mine, I couldn't find any of the blacknitride Pistols either so I got the stainless.

Just in case anybody else cares...

I sent an email to Charter last night saying my local dealers couldn't find the two items I was looking for in stock at any of their distributors...and wondered if they could give me an idea if when they might be available. Much to my surprise, I actually got a reply earlier today:

Good Morning Greg,
The black nitride finish takes a bit longer than the regular gray matt finish. They should be on our production line in about 3 to 4 weeks. Hope this helps.

Donna

So, I don't know if that means there will be a shipment in 4-5 weeks, it 2 months, or longer...or which distributor may get some. But, at least it sounds like they're coming in the not too distant future.

I've often wondered, how does 9mm out of a wheelgun compare to say, 38 special? Similar recoil? Or is it snappy, like it is in an auto loader?

No idea, but hoping to find out.

I replied to the email above asking what that meant as far as shipping them out, and if she could tell me which distributors would have them. Much to my surprise, I got this reply:

Hi Greg,

If you would like to email me in 4 weeks to see if we ran them and also what distributors we shipped them out to that would be great. Then I can give you a heads up.

Have a Great Weekend,
Donna

So, I have a reminder set in Outlook, and hope to have more info in a month.

RedneckFur -> In regards to the 9mm vs the 38spl: The 38spl can be loaded "mild to wild", depends on the ammo. I load my own 9's and 38's and a 38spl "can" have a lot more power. But you can also load up some very hot 9mm since you don't need to worry about slamming your slide back and beating up your auto!
I've owned several Charter Bulldogs, and every one of them in 44spl, overall they tend to be very nice guns....at least the older ones are...the new ones...well, depends, I'm not a fan of the new guns triggers. But maybe they can be adjusted? Other than that they function just fine.

Most of the ones i have handled dont like remington ammo. I think their rims are smaller cause moon clips tend to have problems as well

Finally started getting in stock notifications on the black nitride .40 version today, so I had Scott order me one. Still waiting for the 9mm version at the right price. Hopefully I can post pics soon, and then get it to the range.

And then I'll need to check @chiefjason 's schedule to drive up for a "fitting". :D

Meeting up with chief is a good idea, then I can order a holster for my .40. I talked to him a while back and he couldn't do it without the pistol.

It's the only way I have one for my Rossi .357

If you're serious about it, touch base with him and make payment arrangements. I have no problem with him using mine to make two while I'm there.

I'm just hoping the 9mm version is the same dimensions...at least the frame and cylinder. The 9mm has a .1" shorter barrel, but that won't matter.

Appreciate that. I'll send him a message.

Did you ever talk to him? I'm trying to get up there Tue or Wed of this coming week.

Yes, I talked to him. I'll send a reminder on Tuesday.

Greg, you caught me in the mountains on the tail end of a fishing trip. So reception was sketchy once I started driving and I was dog tired when I got home. I'll get the leather cut for a left and right hand holster. Text me Sunday or I'll try to text you when I get up and moving. Wed is looking like the only way to do it.

No problem at all. Mine will be right hand. If @MKM is wanting a left, then that's a plan.

Just let me know Sun or Mon if Wed will work, or I can wait until the next week if needed.

Got to shoot it today, and had two other guys try it out as well. Definitely a little snappy, but shoots pretty good. I just need to figure out out to aim a wheel gun, as it seemed to shoot a little high to me. Let one of the others that carried and shot revolvers for years take a couple shots and it definitely wasn't shooting high.

Also did make the trip to see CJ this past Wednesday, so both of holsters are in the works.

Yep, mine is left hand draw.
Post a pic when you get it. I know mine is done and headed my way...but I won't get it for a week. :(

Holster update. Got the Pitbull holster from CJ today. Looks great.

Also got a Galco ankle holster, but I think it's going to go back. Was hoping the one I picked would work, but I don't like how it fits. Not sure if anybody local stocks them or not so I can try before I buy next time. :(

Been interested in that in 9mm since they 1st came out. Would like a smaller grip for carry though. I think it would be a great Brooklyn Reload...

Finally got my hands on my CJ holster (been on vacation). Looks great!

Might have found an ankle solution. Galco makes an Ankle Glove for the SP101. Listed on the packaging is the Charter Arms Bulldog Pug .44 2-1/2". On Charter's site they list a holster for the Bulldog 44 special and say it also fits the 5-shot Pitbull 40 and 9 (among others).

IMG_8953.JPG

It has a pretty good angle on it so it shouldn't be too bad to conceal. For comparison, here it is compared to my G27 in a Galco Ankle Glove (which I carry at least once a week):

And just because I had them out to take a pic...the two Galco Ankle Gloves and my Desantis double mag:

Haven't shot the two newest ones, but here's the trio.

2.5" .45 Blacknitride
2.3" .40 Blacknitride
2.2" 9mm stainless steel glass beaded

The 9&40 fit the Galco Ankle Glove and the custom Chief Jason holster pictured earlier in the thread.

Man, I love those black ones. What's the going rate?

I found a deal (at least I thought) on the .45 for $406. I think cost on them is about $400.

The stainless are roughly $15-$25 less most places IIRC. For example, here are the two .40 versions at KY Gun Co:

BigWaylon, let me know how the 45 shoots. I've been looking at getting that one too.

Well, I won't have much to compare it to. I bought my first .45 (Glock 21) about 2 weeks before I bought the Pitbull, and haven't shot either one.

I'm heading to Raleigh in two weeks. Any chance you can shoot on your property? I know a lot of the area around Benson is rural, but wasn't sure. Feel free to shoot me a PM.
