We will be at the beach for the week of the fourth. My son will turn 11 on our trip. I have a half day backwater trip chartered for us. There will be 3 fishing including him. Never been on a charter, the total is $375 what would the standard tip be?

10% is what we did in past years as well unless really good mate for off shore trips when taking customers but not sure for backwater

When we go out of Oregon Inlet on the Fintastic we tip probably more than standard 10% to the captain and $300 for the mate. On our two trips, the mate kept things running quite smooth and the captain got us in the fish.

Another vote for 10% being the baseline, I’ve tipped more when the captain and/or mate we’re more helpful, personable, or had us on fish all day. I’ve also not tipped at all on one backwater trip where the captain didn’t do anything except drive the boat, gave short answers when we asked questions, and we didn’t catch a single fish all day.

We went out Monday, we absolutely killed them from the first hook in the water. The captain worked his butt off keeping us going. He made sure my son's rod was ready to go first. He cleaned all of our fish and was a very social guy. I gave more than I had anticipated, but I felt he earned it.

Those are some big doormats you hauled up there. Where were you fishing if I can ask?
