And bought a 3" SP101 in .357 :D

it's early 90s vintage, and built like a freakin tank. Needs a set of grips though.

Nice wheelgun. You'll enjoy it just as much as your Smiths

nice! i dont have as many ruger revo's as i would like. i hope to fix that in 2018.

That's just the thing with Ruger revolvers...they aren't the prettiest things, but they are built in a way that if you do run out of ammo you can beat about 10 attackers to death with them...even if they are wearing full medieval plate armor...

I LOVE my 3" SP101. It's my fishing buddy.

If the trigger needs a tune-up, try out a set of Wolff springs. Swapping in a lower weight hammer spring made all the difference in the world for mine. And I've not had any issue with factory or hand loads.

Uber sweet.
I've got 2 speed six's that I wouldn't take nuthin for.
The Ruger cylinder release is my favorite too.

Me too! I bought my first Colt (the Police Positive 32-20 that was listed here)

I don't feel soiled, but a little sleazy.

It's next on my list to add to my 44 special collection.

What is this collection of which you speak?
Smith 696. Smith 396NG. Rossi 720C. Older taurus steel framed snubby (can't remember the model number) I think I have one more, I'm not in front of my safe.

I'll probably get a K-frame in .44 special.
I highly recommend these grips for your SP:

Regarding the K frame 44: Nice if you can find one. But, now that you’ve tasted forbidden fruit, I would recommend you try the GP100 in .44 special. I own two L-frame model 69’s (one 4.25”, one 2.75”) and hands down, my GP in .44 Spl goes with me to the range 5 times as much. I found it to have a better trigger, better sights, and just plain more fun to shoot.

I think I am gonna try the diamond pros from Pachmayr. I have those on my Smith 37-2 and love them. And they're still very concealable. I have a set of the hogues, and another set of pachys but they both seem large. And I have fairly large mitts too.

You can't go wrong there! The Hogues fit me pretty well, but you are right - they tend to grab on fabric and are not as concealable as the Pachmayr.

Enjoy!!!

I bought 4 sets of 'rubber' grips for my J frame before I was satisifed with the Diamond pros. They have a sweet palm swell that seemed to fill my hand just right (and TWSS :D)

whats the best way to get a bit smoother/lighter trigger? I have on that I don't shoot often, but can't get rid of it because it was my first gun purchase. I'd like to tinker with it a bit.

First thing I did was clean and polish internals in accordance with this guide:

http://www.sp101trigger.com/

On one of mine, the second thing I did was use hammer and trigger shims to help smooth up the action further. There was nothing drastically wrong with the initial set up, but I figured if I’m going in for a penny, I’m going in for a pound.

Last thing I did was install a Wolff 10-pound hammer spring (factory is 14). I did not mess with the trigger return spring. I have tried messing with it before, did not see any appreciable result, and was not happy with the "mushy" trigger return feel.

Overall, this work made for a buttery smooth double action revolver that has proven 100% reliable with factory ammo and my reloads with Winchester primers. If it were to have any issues with CCI or other “harder” primers, I would simply go to the 12-pound hammer spring.

Hope this helps.

Wow dude. What a great visual guide. Totally different disassembly than a Smith but that makes it look easy.

Yeppers. That'll knock the squirrels outta the tree!

Apologies to Ikarus for semi-hijacking his thread. Us .44 spl fellers do tend to wax on passionately....

Then again, if it leads to another convert among the masses.....I got no problem with that.

nah man I squeal with glee when I find a piece of .44 SPC brass mixed in among the range pickups or stuff I get from vendors. I have a model 94 that eats that stuff up.

925 to be exact.

When I touched it off three squirrels fell out of the trees around me. Must have been sleepin’.
