Hey guys I’ve got a question about cheek risers if anyone has any advise.
I got a 445 tacticool in 22lr a month or so ago to start shooting the monthly competition here on the forum. I put a scope on it with a set of low rings but it’s still a little high and pretty uncomfortable to shoot. I’ve been looking around and saw the new Boyd’s stocks with a built in cheek riser but didn’t want to spend the coin unless I can’t find another alternative. I talked to my father in law who is pretty handy with wood tools and I’m hoping to modify the stock I have into something like the picture I posted below. But until then I was hoping to find a good alternative where I wouldn’t have to drill or permanently modify the stock I have for now. What are you guys using?

Thanks in advance,
Zack

ECNC posted a link one style. If you need just a little more, there are adhesive pads you can apply.
There are also the upside down U shaped Kydex cheek rests that have slots and a couple of knobs to lock the height. You have to drill 2 holes in the stock. That's what I put on my 455 Tacticool and I like it.

This past weekend I used a piece of foam egg crate but was wanting something with a little cleaner look. I guess I’m going to look at something like the Blackhawk @ECNC posted. Looks to be inexpensive and can always take it off later down the road if needed.

Thanks for the info fellas.

What works well also is a rolled up dish towel. Works quite well. I tied it with shoe laces. Does not look great, but does work

Cover your egg crate with leather if you want/need it to look nice.

Did the same thing to my FVSR and it works like a charm.

Call or e-mail Boyds. They may be able to modify your stock for you.

I've rigged up the "tie on" risers with foam to get the right height, but sometimes......it takes time to get it right. Sometimes.... you also have to readjust from normal use. You will bump it or the ties will relax a bit, etc. The extra padding can push your eyes away from the scope horizontally, which could cause eye to scope alignment issues with higher power scopes. However......once you get it right and broken in, you will have a dent where you will rest your cheek, which will make you more consistent.

The integrated riser is the way to go if possible. Once you get your height right, mark it with a paint pen, scribe, tape, etc and it takes the guess work out when you need to remove the riser for cleaning and such.
