Cherokee Nation says Dem Sen Warren still not indian

Yeah she kinda boned this one up. Even though she's technically correct by the "one drop" rule she managed to reinforce her image as a rich white girl trying to claim minority status for advantage.

I've always been told I was half, but my Ancestry.com results indicated that I was about an eighth. 75% of my DNA was English, but damn you'd never know it by looking at me. I'm almost always mistaken for hispanic or something else. When I travelled in Europe, no one could identify my nationality or what language I spoke.

My daughter would be 1/16th, and she has dirty blonde hair with blue eyes.

Buried in the Boston Globe story is this bombshell: "To make up for the dearth of Native American DNA, Bustamante used samples from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia to stand in for Native American."

Note, this is a comment from Vox Day's blog, I've not bothered to confirm its veracity.

This is true, there is nothing identifying where in the "Americas" that your heritage as Native American has originated. So her statement that she is Cherokee, without factual evidence stating a known relative originating within the tribe is just speculation at best.

Lets also take a look at confidence level of anything less than 10%. That is the absolute largest thing people should be asking about. Every DNA evaluation company will tell you that anything less than 10% is outside their confidence level as being factual. Therefore, the miniscule amount she is claiming is likely just a testing error. One would have to trace her genealogy back to the individual she claims to be a descendant of if she's to prove anything.

Does it really matter what any DNA test or actual heritage/lineage says anymore?

So long as one "identifies" as whatever the hell they want to be that is all that truly matters these days. That is why I identify as Chuck Norris on the weekends and Mike Rowe during the week.

I think this is just another example of taking ones statement and blowing it out of proportion for political purposes. Who really cares one way or another at what point one is of a certain lineage. If this is the only "lie" the other side can find against her the other side looses their claimed superior character, jmho.

Lindsey Graham said he is taking a DNA test and they are announcing the results on Foxand friends in a few weeks. He said there was always rumor that he had a Native American relative.

I can't get this song out of my head. :D

I thought about that too when reading about the 5 civilized tribes (Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw & Seminole) after reading the Cherokee Nation’s releases and following various searches after that

Moving this one to the Off Topic section. Fits better there.

I believe the issue is that Warren herself has been using this as political leverage. And it was she that produced the DNA test.

Warren said she was not going to let Trump control the narrative.

Splitting hairs about DNA test results is NOT the narrative; reminding people that a claim of minority status advanced Warren's career IS the narrative that Warren gave Trump.

Agreed. The major issue is that she is claiming minority status off highly objectionable results. I think that is pretty shitty. As being part Cherokee myself, and actually looking the part, we were raised to never take handouts or use that as leverage in advancement.

I don't think there is a single DNA test that has claimed that level of accuracy she is claiming to have identified such a distant relative. The only way to do so that far out would be to have a legally traceable lineage from birth certificates of an actual ancestor. Most company's worth their word will tell you results that are less than 10% are possibly suspect.

If 1/1024th is the standard, then most of us can claim minority status. A friend of mine did Ancestry DNA and he came back 1% Bantu, but he looks whiter than white bread. He has more claim to being black than Warren does to being Native American.

I'm about 75% English, 12% Native American, and 12% Iberian Peninsula (France, Spain, Portugal), but express a majority of Native American features.

My carpenter buddy George is full blown Cherokee. We were talking one time and he starts to tell me how he hates the TSA. They single him out everytime at the airport.
I told him they do that to me too!
He says really?
- No. I'm white as hell. Breeze right through it. :D

So now whenever he sees me he says hey white man.
My reply is always the same; I am the white man.

FWIW Warren has a real Indian running against her for Senate as an independent

Is it racist to say that I can’t tell how old he is from his picture? He claims to have invented email, and I was using email in the late 1970’s so he must be about 65, but I don’t think he looks 50. Maybe she’s lying about her heritage and he’s lying about his accomplishments.

Thank god for him and Al Gore!

Someone lying on their resume? And politicians no less? You must be kidding.

If she runs for POTUS on that platform, she won't stand a chance against Nikki Haley, who has conveniently gone stealth. I think they're prepping Nikki as a wild card. ;)
