Hello brothers and sisters.

The Cliff's Notes version: I got fed up with my church about 5 or 6 years ago because the preacher started blaming guns for all of society's problems and then started making gun owners out to be part of the problem. So, about 4 years ago I looked around and found another church where the congregation was fairly liberal but the preacher did a great job of walking the middle line, trying to be unify the people instead of dividing them. Over the last few months, the liberals of the church have been making more and more obvious their feelings towards anyone with conservative views or who might be a 2A supporter. I tried asking a staff member for guidance and was told that my concerns about the church congregation and over losing my individual 2A rights were ridiculous and irrational.

TLDR: I'm looking for a church where I can get the benefit of good gospel messages without being treated as a second class citizen for my views on firearm ownership. I'm in Harrisburg and can drive a little but prefer to stay out of Mecklenburgistan.

Thanks in advance and God bless.

When it comes to religious freedoms be careful what you wish for, a ride into the outlying rural areas will fullfill your hopes but then the whole congregation at your doorsteps all hours of the day(visitation) can become a little annoying.

@dkmatthews
It would be a ride for you, but First church of God in Archdale is the first church
that I feel like home in. And we had a concealed carry class at church.;)
And we have plenty of veterans. Come visit, at least one time.

I can’t comment on the church, however I can comment on @BASIL , if he says it’s a great place. It’s a great place, Basil is good people!

I'l have to introduce you to @BASIL sometime.

:p

I see you’re in Cabarrus County. We went to West Cabarrus Church for years before finding another church closer to home and our kids’ school. It is a great church, and you will not have the same issues as at your previous church. It is on Speedway Blvd right beside the Hendrick row of dealerships, and across from the Hooters.

Thanks much, @bashman . I will definitely give that one a look.

Can’t help much with your issue, but it sure makes me glad that my pastor is a Marine and encourages our congregation to carry.

Best of luck in your search and I’ll be praying for you.

I just wish we could get politics out of church, sports, work, and Facebook. I guess it's inevitable that people would want to talk politics all the time when people expect the government to provide them with everything, solve every problem, and regulate every aspect of our lives. Good luck finding a church.

What do they do with Luke 22:36?
And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.”
Good luck, I'm hosting a shoot & eat get together for our church safety team ( hall monitors mostly) this Sunday to provide a gun introduction to some and trigger time for the rest.
We've guestimated @ 10% of the congregation carry, and we're in the middle of downtown Raleigh.

You want to hear the gospel and not some topical discussion or a preacher’s feelings on whatever the hot topic is unless there’s a biblical perspective to talk about?

Hickory Grove Baptist Church - Mallard Creek Campus (right behind Concord Mills)

Yes, there are cops on site. Yes, there are “no weapon” signs. But there are tons of people there carrying, including ministers (and at least one of their wives), audio/video crew, and those of us in the congregation. I think the signs are an insurance issue thing.

I’ve taken several of the staff shooting. Seen others at the gun shows.

Let me know if you’re going sometime, or wanna get more info. You can watch a sermon online ahead of time if you want to get a feel for it.

Yes, please. I'll take you up on that. I believe a friend of mine and neighbor from when I lived in Charlotte attends that church.

Check with @gunbelt, he has a church he attends semi regularly that he really likes. I can say you would be welcome there.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does this mean exactly? Visitation?

Not to point fingers but some denominations once you are an accepted member expect you to be at church at their every call. If you miss a date here comes the visiting committee and whole evening spent getting your mind right.

Dang. They’d get quite a show at my place!

Just the IDEA of a free audience makes me excited.....

Sweet Jesus, that sounds awful and like a good way for a whole committee to get a swift kick in the nads.

Dear Jim...
In the last 30 years my wife have been in fundy Baptist churches that preached anyone that accepts anything other than KJV is from the pit of hell, reformed Baptist’s, Brethren type, CREC Presby, then PCA. I’ve never seen that crap.
30 years ago a friend joined the Mormons, within 2 months his job was to spy and report to the elders of the families he was assigned to. He had to weekly report to the elders if they ever had consumed caffeine, soda, tea, chocolate, television, etc.
Gandhi had a good quote (I think it’s accurate) “Your Christ I like, his people not so much”.
Get to know His words, look past His weak followers.

Lol, just remember those that come to your door preaching Jesus are well intended folks and although their methods may not fit your thinking to an absolute I bet the next plane crash you are involved in will have you wishing you had paid more attention at the time of their visit.

I get that. However, I think most of us want to see Jesus as lord of every aspect of our lives. Marriage, work, political, recreational... and yes, hunting/shooting/fishing. After all, God made all these things and "gives us richly to enjoy." Fallen men being what we are, we fashion gods to save us and do for us what only God can do. Political affiliations and ideologies are the latest idolatry craze in America, so we are always going to have to "push back."
I hope you can find a church which helps you form a general view of the lordship of Christ over every area. It is really hard to find a church to TEACH you the bible, rather than just try to give you sporadic inspirational moments... it is hard enough just to find one that takes its cue from the gospel, rather than currents in the culture.

Good luck with the search.

And just as a point of reference.

Veterans were mentioned during two prayers today. Mainly around the “without their sacrifice, we wouldn’t have the freedoms to worship as we do” idea. They were recognized and given a round of applause during announcements. And this was in the bulletin:

EB2A8A23-28E3-4891-B60E-88DC55467542.jpeg

It would’ve been easy to ignore the day, but they didn’t. Similar attention for Memorial Day.

too few realize that was my point.

This is true, but so is this:

Hebrews 10:25 King James Version (KJV)

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Don't judge me but I haven't been to a church since my buddy's mom died last year. Im not fond of church. I've never seen an honest one or one that isn't hypocritical. I don't need other people to reinforce my faith in God or our savior Jesus Christ. I've been eyeing one local church I may visit soon though. It's small and seems like it is more worried about the word of God than anything else up to and including politics. They seen conservative as well.

The church is not the building that "sunday go to meeting" is held in. It is the congregation that meets there. People being imperfect means the church isn't perfect. No insult intended to anyone but I have heard it said that if you find a perfect church don't join it cause you will only spoil it.

@dkmatthews

Completely forgot you were the one that started this thread when we met up last week. :(

Been able to visit any of the churches?

Our pastor preaches the Gospel and emphasizes that Christ is the only way to heaven. We don’t get into politics other that prayers for our leaders both Ds and Rs. Both of our pastors are very pro 2a and one even carries while preaching! We respect and pray for both our military and First Responders ( my son is both!) and observe Veterans Day and Memorial Day with ceremony’s during the week for them. I’ve been going here for the past 32 years and they all seem to like me so you’d be a shoe in if you weren’t so far away! Good churches and good people are where you look for them. Good luck!

I hear good things about Hickory Grove Baptist. Aside from them hiring away a youth pastor we had just hired some years ago. ;)

Is Mike Powers still there?

Mike is still there, but no longer a youth pastor. My wife used to work for him.
