clamp meter reading on 240v AC and watt conversion?

Many people (like my wife) have it in their heads that something like an emergency generator is supposed to "maintain their standard of living" the same as it was before losing power. Nope.

We're actually going for a 2-tier approach. Since we lose power 1-2 times a year for a day or more, we want to set it up so that we maintain most of our 'lifestyle' for 5 days running the generator part time. Sadly that doesn't include HVAC or the hot water heater. After 5 days, if things are still bad then we go into conservation mode for the next 10. If after 15 we don't have power back.... well the fridge is empty anyway and we're now in 'camping' mode (which sounds better than SHTF survival mode). That's why the other thread on the water idea is going, maybe we have food but no power so we'll need water other than the well pump could provide.
