The CMP is selling surplus non corrosve .45ACP ball for about .85 a round. Just received an email notification from them.

A lot pricey compared to @Fuquay Gun ammo. As is their rotten old Greek rifle ammo. Cheaper to roll your own. Shoot better groups with the right load, too.
CMP used to be relatively cheap. Their scrap guns, known as Rack grades, are in worse shape than ever, and cost what a decent Service grade used to cost.
I think when they discovered how much the idiots would pay for the Auction rifles, they saw 🤑🤑.
Greed corrupts, absolutely. They don’t pay squat for those incoming, worn out by foreign armies, rifles or 1911s.
Gunbroker looks better, and CFF is much better, from the last two I got from members.
If I see the word “RARE” and M-1 or M-1 Carbine, I just move on. Any gun made in the multiple millions, whether .30-06 or 7.62Nato, aint RARE.🤮

I agree, no deals to be found at the CMP anymore. I have enough components on hand for at least 1k .45 reloads, so I'm good for the next several years

The last batch of 86,000+ that the CMP got out of the Philippines cost them millions to get back home. Apparently, they had to be exported by ship, plus they had to deal with them being adulterated by invasive termites and old asbestos - among other challenges.

That being said, the CMP prices have certainly gone up and the quality of what they have on offer has gone down. Interestingly, I had a conversation with one of the bigwigs running the CMP a few years back and he point blank told us that CMP did NOT ask for, and did NOT want to have to deal with the 1911s. He said they really wanted to be done with the rifles too. He said that their endowment was such that they really just wanted to get out of the surplus firearm sales business and transition to their marksmanship training and competition mission.

Sounds good, but if their endowment is so good, what is stopping them from closing the stores and doing the competition stuff?
If their endowment is so good, they could drop the prices on the rifles and get rid of them all in short order.

They are still building on the endowment, as that is their mandate and their sales are what drive that. But beyond building Talladega, and increasing the footprint of their travel games, I have no idea what plans they have for spending the money long term. They increased the number of Garands you can buy from 1 per year to 8 per year, so they are clearly not trying to drag out weapon sales. Unfortunately, it is pretty clear that their heyday of quality and quantity of inventory is quite a few years in the past now.
