Cuisinox stove top espresso maker
Cuisinart burr mill coffee grinder
Bodum giant coffee press. This one is the biggest they make. It is called a 12 cup but only fills that white coffee cup twice.

Hows does that stovetop espresso maker compare to a real one? Is the result as good?

Does it make real espresso with good crema or is it more like a percolated coffee?

Not percolated. I have not idea what "crema" means. This type of espresso maker is is popular in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Water is forced up through the coffee into the the capture reservoir. Espresso machines force it down into a cup.
Certainly less complicated than a machine. Great to have at least as a back up in a power out breakfast time or for camping.
The reviews on Amazon are pretty accurate too. There may be a few coffee snobs that low mark this type. There will always be those who think one must spend $2000 to make a good cup.
This is a good video.

Crema is to espresso what head is to a draft beer. A good cup has a creamy texture and no bitterness. I'm not a snob about coffee machines but results are important:

The video looks more like percolated coffee to me but I'll still give it a go - I like that too. Thanks for posting this I didn't know about these gizmos.
