Sort of. Brown sauce is a catchall term for fruity spicy condiment sauces similar to HP sauce but not always as good. Think ketchup, as opposed to a specific brand. Brown sauce is also excellent anywhere you would use ketchup but especially on meats like sausage and chops as well as fries.

If you want to give it a go i recommend Daddy's brand, not least for all the "Daddy's sauce" jokes.
