If you take the WIlson and McCormick magazines out of the question, what brand would you buy?

Tripp Research.
Have been wanting to try some Ed Browns.
No complaints with factory Springfield Armory, someone here knows who makes those.

I think Metaform or Checkmate makes the SA mags. I have had good luck with a lot of different mags. My go to are still Wilson and Tripp but I have use factory mags from a lot of manufacturers in a lot of different 1911s. Wilson now owns Chip McCormick but it was my understanding that they would continue to make their 45 ACP mags.

This is the first time I have ever had a base plate weld break. They were only stamped COLT 45 ACP. I would guess they are 20 to 25 years old.

Why not buy Wilson or Chip McCormick?

Tripp here also ... about 2 dozen and a big box of rebuild parts. That’s basically a new spring and follower with an occasional base pad ... clean and reassemble for a 95% new mag.

I have a couple Wilson and McCormick for my 3.5" 45 (they are ones that I grabbed by accident today) but for range work and just playing around with paper I can not see spending $25+ for the magazines. I have a few magazines to take to the range but getting leary about the ones that are tacked welded.

Dawson with Dawson metal basepads. (rebranded Metalforms, with Dawson basepads)
