They were the first to fold under Clinton. Remember former CEO Ron Stewart stated that he would favor a federal permit system with training and testing for gun ownership?
Then the next idiot was all in favor of 'smart guns?"

I'm sure this is 90% business related but the Prancing Pony has always leaned to the SJW side of the 2A at least during my lifetime.

Sadly that ole horse is getting lame. Look at where they are located, eventually the koolaid leaks into their water and spreads. I love their re-inventing of the “snake guns”, but they are the not the company they once were. They still run the sear block or sear web in their rifles.

So is this going to make those LEO surplus colt ARs more expensive or less?

Because the mil/leo market has been a bonanza for them. I look forward to their next chapter 11 (hopefully 7) filing.

Meh, I was never going to buy a Colt anyway. For better ARs I'd much rather have a Noveske, Daniel Defense, LMT, or BCM anyway. I figured it was more about numbers for them, but if they want to throw Leftist views around, that'll just make me stay farther away.

Word is they have a lot of contracts for foreign military sales and they need to focus on filling those orders.

Well looks like this is now a brand I'll never add to my line-up, right up there with Springfield Armory. Will spend my funds elsewhere.

Just checked my one distributor who carries Colt. Only thing they have in stock is a few of their uber expensive reissue guns. Of course, they may not have had any of the "normal" Colt ARs in stock before this, but they sure don't now.

Given the weakness of the over $500 AR market in recent years, this doesn't surprise me.

Strangely, I feel a little better knowing that it was a business decision versus a walmart/dicks type decision.

I think I might take a couple 6920s to the show this weekend to see if they will finally sell. I had gotten to where I just left them home, as they got no attention.

Might even make a huge, scary sign:

"GET A COLT WHILE YOU STILL CAN! THEY HAVE BANNED THEMSELVES!"

    LOL

I like the 6920. It's "the" quintessential AR-15. I'd like to have another. That said, screw 'em and the horse they rode in on....

Meh. Every "modern" Colt AR I have had in my hands has left me scratching my head. Laughably over priced bottom tier basic milspec carbine. Would never even occur to me as a viable option for an AR. Most over rated gun ever, imo.
    Arfcom can have them.

Why would you say that? You can get a 6920 for $800, which ain't bad. A thousand, no; $800 is a great price. A boringly reliable carbine.*

    *I'm no fan-boy; I shoot the 6920 and BCMs.

Might be time to trade the M16A4 for something interesting once the gouging and panic really takes hold.

I take any part off a Colt rifle, and compare it to Aero Precision, and it loses by comparison. So, I feel that for the same money, I can get much better finish and quality.

I'd consider it if the price were more in line with the cheap PSA, which I feel is comparable.

The Colt Competition rifles are great. Because they are not made by Colt.

Colt really is a nostalgia line these days.

With what Aero, Q, Noveske, BCM, LWRC, even PSA and other budget lines bring to market, Colt simply can't keep up.

If you like the name, then great. Grab one just to say you own a Colt.

But if my life depended on it, I'm confident in my Aero stock.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I have only 4 ARs and None are especially "pride of ownership" items. Tools,,think Glock, to me.

What does bother me about this is looking back at Camp Perry, for 2700 shooters, SASS for the Cowboy in us, IPSC in it's Heyday, 3 gun matches, really Most competitions were started with Colt base products. Awful for an old timer like me to see this Grand old Mark slip away. I sure hope @Amp Mangum is right about the foreign contracts.

Interesting. Not my experience. To me, Colt is approximate (i.e., same/same) with BCM. For me it's Colt and go up: BCM, DD, LMT, etc. Interesting how perceptions and subjectivity go on these things.

Didn't used to be that way. I'll buy older Colts still, but the stuff they've been turning out since 2014-2015 is just not the same as their 2011ish and earlier products.

I see what you did there. I often thought Colt and Ferrari should have done some sort of collaboration. :D

From what I remember, firearms are a small part of Colt Industries. I believe Crucible Steel is their money maker.

They and FN have a big contract with the Army to upgrade M4 to M4A1. This could be part of it. The other parts may too high of production costs to compete with the mass market guns and a desire to lie low for awhile.

Doing it now gives them flexibility based on the outcome of the 2020 elections. They have the “We had to concentrate on our military obligations” card, as well as the “We were the first rifle manufacturer to address the gun violence epidemic” card.

Back in the 1900s. Around the early and mid 80s even, if you wanted an AR that worked it had Better say Colt. 35 years ago if you had Olympic Arms and all the others and wanted it to work, a Colt Carrier was Mandatory.

Ruger did the 10 round thing, Smith added the Hillary hole locks, but Colt's CEO advocated against the 2A being a right and more of a privilege that required training before licensing.

Precisely. Colt/BCM/PSA = all about the same. About as close to the same as you can possibly get. Literally. I swear they pump them all out of the same big room.

    :p

DD a nice step up from all those, imo.

LMT: 1400$ for this m4 thing (of which I'd change half the parts for decent ones, so add another 600 at least):

Hahahah, no thanks. Hard pass on LMT.

I could never in good conscience put PSA in the same convo. I just...can't, lol. Yeah, LMT is expensive, but they are built to last. A lot of pipe-hitters use LMT. DD is great, but no better than Colt/BCM. Their money-maker is/was the Mk18 and their rails, but I think of DD as boutique-ish. Same for LWRC, KAC, and Noveske. Not saying bad, at all, but price range puts them in rarefied air.
