Anyone here shoot one? Have one? Want one? I wouldn't mind one in 44-40. Seems like a good deer rifle or even home defence.

Yupper. Had one in .38 WCF, but sold it a bunch of years ago. Nice little pump action. Miss it.
Was it an original or a repo? 38wcf is cool. Its a 40 cal not like 38special that's 35... for people that don't know.

I had myself convinced to buy a Taurus repro in 38spl and thread it for a can.

I later heard they were terribly hard to get running reliably. Glad I waited.

I have a Taurus Thunderbolt in .45 Colt that I regularly use for CAS. I prefer it over my 1873 Winchester because I am faster with it. If you go repro, and can get one in 44-40, I would recommend that caliber because it is historically correct, and the slightly bottlenecked cases seem to feed better. I haven't had many issues with my rifle however I bought mine from a later batch that Taurus had re-worked and sent out to some distributors. Evidently they must have figured it out because mine works fine. It is somewhat sensitive to how one works the action (not too fast and not too slow) but once you find the rhythm, it is pretty reliable. The price is good too $500 or less.
