Good stuff. The older retention technique was known as the Speed Rock. At contact distances, you must make a window of opportunity in order to draw your weapon. Remember the other guy is fighting for his life too. You will need to go hands on. Many people don't like that idea, but it's inevitable. If you don't take it to him, he'll bring it you you. What I saw missing in those target engagements was contact distances targets. I trained in contact, actually touching the target. Yes, there is a lot of muzzle blast and you feel the powder peppering you face. It stings. But, it's the real world.
