Company Closures and Goods Reduction Thread

McLean's (and Hillbillies') in Zebulon closed, I understand. The world turned upside down! On the bright side, Z-town's Smithfield's renovation closure couldn't have come at a better time! Food Lion here remains mostly stocked with some dry goods and meats being sparsely stocked. More importantly, Perry's (LGS in Wendell) is imposing some (imo reasonable) restrictions :

Closing by 5 pm Wednesday per governor:

gyms
Hair salons
Barbershops
Buncha other similar places.

they have gone all out to kill this economy.

I wish the announced closures would have included Democraps mouths. "Nope! National Emergency here, let the grown-ups talk."

Odd what some here are saying about drive-throughs & takeout, I haven't seen that so much. Drive-thrus in Louisburg seem about normal, Chik-Fil-A in Wake Forest was a LITTLE slower than usual on Saturday, but still quite packed.

He could have handled that notice much better. It was a little like “I don’t care what you want, this is how it is buddy.”

I drive a truck too, I get worried every time I stop at a truck stop what you might catch just from going inside before the corona virus. o_O
so i take it you'll not be admitting to any late night visits from the friendly ladies with the welcoming committee...

The only place I go during the day that worries me is the truck stop. Other than that in interact with less than 10 people a day. Sometimes a lot less.

But how many clients did the lot lizard have before you!? :)

I’m honestly surprised there haven’t been more infections at the building supply companies.
Our sheet rock distributors are supplied via trucks, several semi trucks a day rolling into their yards from all over the country. Just seems like an easy way to transmit the virus when you got people coming in to your facility all day long from all around the country.

Driver interacts with the yard guys, who interact with the inside guys who interact with customers and so on.

Not to mention the fact that 90% of all Sheetrock is produced in CHINA!

Ain't got room for that in a day cab. Ain't seen one that would ever interest me anyway. And since I'm not 18, not sure I could perform in that cramped space.

Capital Electric which has had numerous names over the years was locked when I got there in Longview today. They had only 6 customers come by all day. They can take an order over the phone and give it to you outside. They seemed to have increased their prices to Home Depot prices all of a sudden. I may be using Amazon as a source before long or Home Depot. I can’t allow them to take advantage of this situation.

How do you know they are taking advantage of anything? The price they pay for stuff may have gone up to them?

Nope. They are higher than online, Home Depot, City Electric Supply, Lowe’s, and others. Did they have a 80 percent increase with lower customer numbers, possible but not likely.

A Provider at work lives across the street from a Food Lion. Her husband went in yesterday. While chatting with the manager the manager told him they are starting to get concerned now because they are not able to get all of the orders they are placing. My oldest brother drives a truck for Food Lion. I mentioned this to him and he said what is happening is the warehouse is limiting what stores are getting so that all stores get some of everything. He said the trucks are running just as fast as they can go and they ran 266 loads today. My wife stopped in at the local Dollar General. The manager said they are getting a truck in Saturday and it "is the smallest shipment we have ever got."

My dad, daughter, and bil all work at different food lions. They all say what you say about worry and running out of stuff, but also the lower level employees recieved 1$ more per hour with overtime options and the management got 2$ more per hour with overtime. my daughter said they just hired 18 new people at her location. Im guessing they plan on surviving this thing. Home depot and lowes in burlington are hiring right now starting at 11$ and can put people on schedule as soon as they get orientated...Thats what the manager helping me out said yesterday. They are also considered essential apparently so reduced hours, 6-6 i believe, but no shutdown.

Went to BB&T Monday but the doors are locked. Drivethu only. I didn’t have a deposit slip so they were very helpful making the deposit. But my friend went to the same bank to draw out $8000 to keep on hand and he got met with resistance and noise. They attempted to assure him he didn’t need cash but he did get the money. Seems no money coming in and cash coming out is not a bankers delight.
