I just got an email about this. Has anyone heard about this?

———————————————-
This is about our Veterans, Military, and the men and women that have sacrificed for this great Country. The City of Statesville, North Carolina has filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to require Gander RV in Statesville to take down their American Flag. They are imposing a $50/day fine retroactive to 10/15/18. Many cities like Statesville have requested that Camping World and Gander Outdoors take down their American Flags. WE WON'T DO IT!
Stand with us.

I find this very positive.

I wish my town had everything under control to the point they could afford to worry about excessively large American Flags. o_O

I just read this email and like most, I felt the need to sign and share. However, I’m not intrigued to support anything promoted by Change.org.
Of course, when you sign you are offered other “petitions “ to sign.

The Gastonia store has a similar flag. It's huge. But, unfortunately, due to it's location in the back of the shopping center, it's not widely seen from the road.

The city's lawsuit claims a flag within 100 feet of a highway cannot be larger than 25 by 40 feet.

The company's CEO told Channel 9 similar flags are up at more than 200 stores across the country, including several cities in North Carolina, none of which have had any problems with them.

“I don’t care if it goes to $500 a day. It's not coming down,” Marcus Lemonis, CEO and chairman of Camping World and Gander RV, said.

Lemonis said it’s personal to him.

“My family has been car dealers, had been car dealers since the 1960s, and our key trademark was always flying our flag in our dealership in south Florida,” he said. “My family is largely immigrants of the country.”

They asked me not to support them. I honor that request.

A $50 fine per day is around $18,250.

In 2017 Camping Worlds gross profit was 1.2 billion.

In other words, statistically insignificant. It is like Mike Overlay demanding action and a petition signed because PHA demands he leave 1 spent brass on the range each visit.

US Code 36-10 Sec. 176-I (US Flag Code):
“The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.”

Don’t be fooled that any store waves the flag for honor or representation of veterans. If no one were spending money in their store, there’d be no flag.

You’re all being duped by Gander’s pity party and false patriotism.

Nope they are too busy putting money into a baseball park and a team that we didn't need.

Well if no one was spending money in their store there would be no store. And just how much do you really think taking the flag down will hurt their bottom line. Probably less than the fine. Lastly if you are for freedom you need to be for everyones freedom or no ones.

But it is very significant very cheap publicity ... the media coverage and “rally ‘round the flag” movement it will bring is worth way more than the fine. Statesville sucks for doing what it’s doing but Overlay and Gander’s use of this matter for prostituting the flag for gain is just about as bad.

If it's retroactive that would mean on that date they amended an ordinance regarding flag size. The city would likely be in communication with businesses that were in danger of violating the new ordinance long before it got voted on.

Gander can thumb their nose if they want but it's likely a stunt. The unfortunate victim is the flag-

The flags are nothing new. They have had them. So, it's not some new advertising gimmick. The flags are freestanding, without adulteration, at least the one in Gastonia is. The one in Gastonia is out in the parking lot and I first wondered if it was theirs or the shopping centers.

And the CEO did apologize for his comments. Unlike Dick's, that doubled down. FWIW

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. At least for now.

No doubt. Additionally, if they really wanted to gain traction with many they have alienated then they would proudly pay the fine in defiance and come across more as the flag waving rebels as opposed to the flag wanting cucks.

It is a stunt and it’s working. Look at the people in this thread alone, ones that the same CEO talked smack about, are now buying something from them most likely just to support them. Screw them.

I'll concede that an ostentatious flag in front of a business will draw attention and so you could argue it's an advertisement.
I do understand the cynicism but I don't really care *why* they display their flag or what their positions on other issues might be. I support their right to do so in any respectful way they desire.

He is a wily one that CEO. Unfortunately you are right, it is working. Need to spread the word that this guy is a con-man and a scumbag. His apology was as phony as he is!! Stop supporting him!

The only thing that annoys me is who complained to the city in the first place to get the ordinance changed? PA residents driving down 77 on the way to FL probably.

You're missing my point: the Flag Code was written for a reason. That is to respect and honor the symbol of our country. Freedom is great, and there typically must be a few rules to keep it in place and functioning without some butthead ruining it for everyone else. Using the flag as anything other than a very high symbol of freedom and the lives spent to defend it is disrespectful. That was my point.

I love a giant US flag as much or more than anyone else. If we're going to be real about it, put it on its own vacant lot that has nothing to do with a sleazy, slimy, used car lot (or overpriced outdoor goods store that farts in our general direction while pretending to stand tall with "us" and the flag).

And you are missing my point. You and I and any one else do not get to choose who gets to use freedom or how they use it otherwise it isn't freedom is it?

I can dig it..

I've been wanting to cut down a snaggy cedar tree in my yard and build a nice Flag pole in it's place.

The fine is retroactive, it goes back to October and now totals around 11000.00

Despite the rules/etiquette of (what's supposed to be) one of most sacred symbols???
