Question about NC , as I live in SC. Every time you'd like to purchase a new gun, you need a purchase permit to do so? And does this go for private sale or is there no such thing as private sale in NC?
You only need purchase permits for handguns. They're $5/ea (IIRC) and good for five years. You can also show a concealed handgun permit instead. You would surrender your PPP (pistol purchase permit) to the dealer.Question about NC , as I live in SC. Every time you'd like to purchase a new gun, you need a purchase permit to do so? We were told at the time we handed in our completed renewal application by the sheriff department staff that if ours expired before the new CHP came that it was NOT valid for purchase, but only carry within NC.I was told by the owner of a lgs that if you kept your receipt from paying to renew your permit that you could purchase on an expired CHP. He said it came straight from the atf agents that deal with his area. Don’t know for sure didn’t try. Took mine 108 days in person county from time of turning in renewal to phone call.
My old permit expires on 4/7/18, the new one expires on 4/6/23.That's true about them being good for carry but not purchase.
Be interested in hearing what the date on the permit is. I got SMS/call/and maybe email from Meck...but they were all ~2-3 weeks after it was actually approved. Mine was approved before the old one expired, but I wasn't notified until afterwards.
To expand on @BigWaylon's answer...My understanding is that up to 5 PPPs may be ordered per day with no limit on the total number. There comes a point, if one does a lot of buying, when it is cheaper to just get the carry permit.Question about NC , as I live in SC. That varies by sheriff. Think that law states 10 at a time may be obtained, but different sheriff's set lower limits. Before I had a CHP, I could have requested 10 PPP's in Buncombe. I've seen posts where other counties have a limit as low as 2.To expand on @BigWaylon's answer...My understanding is that up to 5 PPPs may be ordered per day with no limit on the total number.
