I'm looking at building a lighter SBR than my current one without going into exotic materials. Anything I should consider before getting one of these stocks? It's like a cheeseburger lighter than the waffle m4 stock. Also gonna swap the olight for a Modlite PLHv2-18350 to cut another quarter lb off and get a more spilly light for indoor use. I'm thinking I might be able to get close to 7 lb unloaded w/ a can and light.

Current AR for reference:

I have the Brownells version and an original Colt N1, the Brownells seems to have less wobble. I like the CAR style stocks for a light carbine.

I must know what handguard/rail system that is!

I like them and they are extremely light.
The Brownells version is fine but Cav Arms also has lots of odd colors besides black/FDE/sand/OD green if you want something more exotic. They provide a little less cheek weld surface than modern stocks, but they aren't bad. Rattle on the tube like the M4 stocks do, but nothing a strip of tape on the buffer tube can't fix.

Edit: RGuns has the whole setup with buffer for a couple dollars more than Brownells.
Cav arms? I thought they went out of biz back when shotgun news was still being printed?

I’m a fan of the MFT Minimalist, yet according to Brownell’s site, it’s 2oz heavier than the CAR-15.
The MFT fits the shoulder well, has the rubberized end so it’ll stand upright without sliding & falling. It also works as a hook to hang the rifle.

Have you considered the MFT?
I haven't, but I'll add it to the list! I'm concerned about the hook part catching on stuff like my plate carrier though. Not sure if I wanna go with the paracord method to counter that.

If you decide to try the MFT, they go on sale for around $35 fairly often.

It depends on how close to the "Original" CAR set up you want be.
Original CAR stocks are two position. I have a Fulton Armory updated CAR stock on a Bushmaster carbine, but is 6 position.
I'm putting an aluminum version on my LAR-9.
As for me, I like the smaller butt plate footprint, and the fact that most guys at the range aren't familiar with them.

Is this an original aluminum stock or a reproduction?

Update, went with the polymer CAR15 stock on an A5 tube and updated my optic. SBR stamp finally came in too. Shaved 10 oz off at the cost of 2" longer collapsed length. Now I just need a better light and better heat shields. The BCM ones fall out as soon as it gets a little warm.
