Convince me to shoot .45ACP

Do you want to shoot with a suppressor? Do you want "muh stoppin' pahr?" Do you want "tew wurl warz?" Do you just want to have something different? Do you like spending more money on ammunition? If any of these are yes, 45acp is for you in those applications. If not, 9mm all the way. :p

Size mattersā€¦

Meh, sell off your 45 stuff if youā€™re balls deep in 10mm.

Practically speaking, it doesnā€™t really do anything that 10mm canā€™t.

and this is coming from someone who loves 45 Automatic (are we sticking to SAAMI names these days?)

It suppresses much better than 10mm for a given muzzle energy unless you can find 230gr+ 10mm bullets (maybe so, I haven't looked).
Otherwise I agree.

I have a bunch of 1911s - 1 45, 1 460 Rowland (44mag ballistics basically), a few 22s and a few 9s, and the 9s get the most use of them all. But even then, I have to say that 22LR 22/45s and 9mm 2011s get 99% of all my pistol shooting time these days. Not much need to shoot any other pistols (not counting braced "pistols" :)).

Absolutely no reason to shoot .45, itā€™s a big, heavy, slow round that offers little in the way of ballistic efficiency and is capacity limited compared to equally capable 9mm pistols. Yep..no reason, none at all and thatā€™s why I own several. I figured out a long time ago that sometimes the best reason to own/shoot a particular caliber is that you find it entertaining to do so.

Reactions: Me.
Here we go...
Own several 1911's all configurations.
Hardballers, Long Slide, Para Warthog, Clark Customs, Vegas, Crown City Arms,
RIA BBR 3.10 45acp, Colt Gold Cups, older NM, all basically 70's Series, home built
ones, non 1911's, Sig 220, S&W 4553 TSW, .Powder Springs MAC. , HK's, and so on.
Shoot Bullseye, Bowling Pins, Plates, etc.
Next on the list is a 10mm long slide project.

Don't care about the weight, don't care if its 7rds or 14rds,

Loads depending on which gun are either W231, N310, CCI-300's, Federal, WCC, Win,
cases, bullets Cast H&G 68, 200gr SWC (or MiHec Clone 68 with all the pins), Zero 185gr
JHP, still have some Speer "Flying Ashtrays ", Cutting Edge Technology makes a nice lite
Hollow point that does some damage.

Both 9mm / 45acp have their followers, likers, haters, pros / cons...
Some people have a hard time dealing with the recoil, the grip angle, "locked n cocked", etc.

I Look at it this way if you want one get one, it you don't, then don't., people just look at me..

Suppressed..meh...aint high on my list.
YMMV..

This thread got me interested. I had a 1911 years ago and sold it and had been wanting to get back into one. But, I got a chance at a HK45C today from a friend who had one and had never shot it. So, what ammo are y'all using to target and what self defense rounds are you using? I still have all my reloading brass and ball lead for the 1911 so I can reload some up again pretty quickly.

When I carried my 45, it was just regular 230 gr FMJ for the range. Winchester PDX for carry. I still have my Colt Officer's 45 but don't shoot it much anymore. My daughter has laid claim to it for when the day comes

Meh, many a hood rat have survived being shot with a 9mm. Im not worried
Some years ago, a buddy of mine was talking to an old friend of his by phone. (I happened to have met him as well.) At the time, that friend was a guest at Central Prison in Raleigh. During the conversation, he mentions to remind him to get a .45 when he got out. Because, everyone in prison was walking around with 9mm holes in them.

If I were of the wealthier ilk, Iā€™d have more than one 1911, in .45acp of course. The only way.

I had and sold two in the past but I will never sell another firearm again.
