OK.

So, I'm the newbie from NCGO, but I really like to cook and I like to take photos of what I'm cooking.
I've evolved the thread over at NCGO into a general "whatchya cooking" and post how to fix it at the same time.
I didn't really see a thread here on such, so, I guess I'm starting one.

I know there is a Grilling Thread & a Cast Iron Thread here, I'll try to remember to use it when I grill or whatever, but if I forget, which I probably will, it will be posted in the Cooking Thread. :)

I will post anything I cook here.

>MUST.INCLUDE.PHOTOS.OF.FOOD.< :) Please

Everyone knows that photos are what everyone wants to see, so post up what you are cooking, be that breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, etc.

I'll start for this evening.

I have a pot luck lunch to go to at work tomorrow and there will be no veggies other than what I bring.
Yea, I love my meats (beef, pork, chicken, deer, fish, etc), but I also like my veggies.
The blue & red dishes are for stuffed olives.
I have a Ranch Dip & Sweet Roasted Red Pepper Hummus to go with the veggies.

If you care to check the thread out at the other site, you will see what I mean. :)

But, here's what I did this evening.
Veggie tray(s) and some cocktail meatballs (no picture yet)...

Can't wait to see some of your meals Wolfie. Loved this thread at the other place. Always made me hungry, even if I just ate.

I'll add as I cook...but you know this already.

I'd love to retire from engineering and be someone's chef.....

Subscribed!

Already ate, didn't take any pictures...

Here's one from the archives:

I'd hire you in a heartbeat Wolfie, BUT..... we're a gun free organization.... sorry....

Good job, wolfie. Looking forward to your cooks and the photos.

Waiting ever so patiently. Well, as patiently as a fat man can wait.

Wow, that looks great! Makes a feller contemplate licking his screen!

I won't have anything to show until the weekend most likely, as that's when I do most of my cooking, but I can post up the chicken pot pie I made this past Saturday...

Man those look great. Did you use real pot or that synthetic stuff?

Well, if you're talking crusts, those are store bought, as I somehow just didn't learn the pie crust making thing from my Grandma.
If you're talking about the filling, that's not store bought.
Used a can of boneless/skinless chicken thighs & a can of chicken breast that I had canned a couple years ago, milk, heavy cream, flour, mixed veggies and mixed up together for the filling.
Could have been a tad "juicier", but I've been told it was really good. :)

I guess you didn't get the memo that myself, along with many others here, have an extra smartass gene. I used to kid my mother-in-law and asked her if she used real pot (weed) in her pot pie. You'll get everyone figured out soon enough.

Now, those pies are a thing of beauty and I would bet that they are amazing.

It isn't much, just a simple sammich for lunch today.

Whole wheat (didn't have pumpernickel/rye), pastrami, swiss, 'kraut and a little 1000 island...

i can't get pie crust right either.. it comes out hard as leather or doughy and doesn't cook right..

those look amazing!

Pie crust can be really fickle. I've been trying to perfect it as I like to avoid processed / commercial foods as much as possible. A couple of tips to try:
use multiple types of shortening, as they melt at different temperatures and this helps it flake
use COLD shortening,
use ice water and spoon it in a little at a time until it just forms a dough ball
let the dough rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before making the crust
pre bake it about 10 minutes before adding the filling.

Wolfie--- those CPPs look delicious! That's comfort food of the first order!

Sorta like the yoga pants thread, eh?

Made some Mongolian Beef with veggies this afternoon.
Served with Soba Noodles.

2 NY strip steaks cut into slices, tossed with cornstarch, and sautéed in some olive/sesame oil

Removed that from the pan, added a little more oil and sautéed the sliced onions, broccoli, carrots.
After about 5min, I added some snow peas & garlic.
3-4min after the snow peas, the beef was added as well as a soy sauce/brown sugar mixture.
Brought to boil for a short period, then turned down.

I did have just a little for "lupper" (lunch/supper) and put away 4 containers for next week...

We've always done this with Turkey after Thanksgiving and Christmas. We pretty much mix up everything left over from the dinner, add the rest of the gravy and bake. :)

Where's the obligatory SIG in the foreground??? :) (They look delicious)

mmmm....red hots!
Haven't had those in a really long time.
Now I'm gonna have to get to the store next week and pick some up.

The bad thing is as much as I love them I cant think of anything to do with them except to fry them black ,,,throw them in some bread with a little mustard. You are obviously creative,,Can you do something exciting or something with a twist?

Well, you could dice them, fry them with some veggies (red/orange/yellow bell pepper, mushrooms, onions, spinach, etc) & toss them in an omelet.
Or the above and just throw in some eggs & cheese & fry up together.
Might could make some gravy to go with them and serve over toast or biscuits...

And, I do like them fried up almost black, on toast with Duke's mayo & some mustard..

Everything sounded great until you said the "M" word. That stuff is allowed in my home,,,,long story,LOL BTW have you ever made a banana pudding, if so did you top it with any thing?

It's a Trap!

I'm not much for desserts or sweets, so I don't make them often at all.
I'm more of a "meat & taters" kinda cook - just don't make desserts.
And, no, haven't made 'naner pudding.

It's only me here, well, besides the 2 dogs & 1 cat, and it's really hard to cook for just one person.
I end up cooking for a platoon of Marines and either having leftovers or freezing what I don't eat or give away.
