I have been thinking about dressing up a Coonan 357 with some new grips. StonerCNC has several options, and I discussed something custom like marbled carbon fiber with them. I'm not usually a big fan of CF, but am betting these would look incredible against the brushed and satin stainless. I am not too concerned about grip, as the primary grip comes from the front and rear strap.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Pic of this beauty for reference.

On a whim, I looked at some prices for those on gunbroker. A little too rich for my blood.
Awesome piece there. I think the StonerCNC black & gray G10 grips would look good

Prices on the secondary market have increased dramatically over the years. I was fortunate to pick up this one a while back at a reasonable price. Wish I had also kept the P226 X5 Competition model I picked up around the same time 😢

 :D

Also, these are slab-sided panels, correct? Meaning, where they meet the gun, they would lay flat on a table?

If so, if you're looking for a fun project and some pride of craftsmanship, you can buy slabs of carbon fiber for a handful of bucks, and make your own.

Downside: you need a real respirator if you're going to be sanding and filing on carbon fiber.
You are correct, and that is a great point! I may have to give that a try. I do already have a 3M half-face respirator with P100 filters... Or I could just order them complete for $150 and not subject myself to that :D

Reactions: Me.
Best grips I have ever seen or handled, albeit for a 1911 were made by Halpern Titanium.
They were literally about 1/32 of an inch thick, with a diamond plate type pattern.
They were flat, not sloped, and were made of pure Titanium.
Then Halpern stopped making them....

My Coonan has the same grips as the OP up top.

Early on when I bought mine a few years back, I wrote Pachmayr to see if they were going to offer some grips for the Coonan in the future. I never received a response.

I have a set of Pachmayr rubber grips on my 92FS that I really like. I need to follow up with them to see if they may now offer them for the Coonan.

The Coonan and one of those Freedom Arms casull SA things are two guns I will quickly acquire upon my big lottery win. I have no real use for either, but they are just nice pieces in calibers that go BOOM. And you almost never see one. If you own either, you should be required to have good pics and post them often.

I am investigating a Freedom Arms 4 incher as I type!!!

A neat gun, its sad that they are out of production.... again.

I could never justify one vs a 10mm 1911, from a practical standpoint.

But a .357 Magnum auto pistol just has a certain pizazz!
