Cooper gonna shut it down

Well, to be fair, she came from a time when journalists had integrity.

Myth. That time never existed. :D

Remember, Stalin was loved by our media. Nothing to see there. Move along. Heck, read about the press going back to at least the Adams vs Jefferson race. They have always sucked and been lying scum.

And a certain Asshat from Germany was on the cover of Time too.

I read Germany was quick to include artists and other aesthetics in their emergency bail out plans because they remembered what happened when an out of work artist had too much time on his hands.

And to be fair, without a coroners report, we have no clue what killed him. Could have been heart attack, brain aneurism, who knows what. And some one coughs this time of year could be from a myriad of reasons. Just because the rona is constantly pushed in the media doesnt mean everyone is passing it along.
Fair point.
I'd assume that the mayor wouldn't give a speech about it unless there were some facts in there... but you make a fair point. The driver died of "complications" linked to CV...

And while looking up the announcement, I found out that another lady got killed a mile or so from my old house just outside of detroit. but at least it wasn't random - it was her husband choking her to death.
I don't miss that city at all.

Can we get a new scapegoat this time?

Its those damn muslims, they own all the gold and the media!

Apparently Cooper is running his mouth about not enough people staying home. lets just take a look at the large businesses that will continue to run in the greater Hickory area and things will start to get clear. And I know this is not all of them.

MDI, PFG, and Hackney- all food distribution
Flowers and Bimbo bakeries
Bartlett Milling
Apple
Microsoft
Various emergency services
Corning
Commscope
Maple Springs Laundry
Target distribution
Fed Ex
UPS
XPO, Southeastern, Gaines, Red Classic and other trucking companies

Just because you can shut down RTP without causing a societal collapse does not mean you can do that around here. Shut the above businesses down and you best bar the doors and load the guns because it would get ugly, fast.

Dude come to Raleigh & look at all the idiots who are: Piled into the parks/greenways (to the point that it totally defeats the purpose of social distancing/stay at home), having parties, playing beach volleyball. It's ridiculous and thats what he's getting at. I'd say most of the businesses you listed would be considered "essential", so I can promise you the governor aint talking about that. It's all the numbskulls who are going on as if this virus wont affect them or their family.

Too damn small not to fail? Thought they did that already. That "greater good" thing better improve right quick like. Treasury = Fed= Wall Street officially at last, so.... piece of cake. Eat it!

I took the girls up to the parkway at 10am Sunday, got on near Freebornes and exited near 77. I just wanted to get them out of the house for a little while. There was almost no traffic on the parkway itself, but every scenic overlook was PACKED with cars and people - picnicking, laying on blankets, kids running around, dogs running around. We stayed in the car for the most part, only getting out once or twice where there were no other people.

On the way to the parkway every grocery store, family dollar, dollar general we passed was also packed.

On Saturday we went to High Point and it looked like it was a typical Saturday afternoon based upon the crowds.

Then deal with Raleigh. That's one of my issues. Dealing with an issue nation or state wide that is more local in most cases. One size fits all is usually one size fits the least. But be careful. The cost of forcing people to stay home and not come out for that type of stuff has a cost too.

Remember when we were being told to get out in nature, go hiking, go to the park, go camping to avoid having to stay home all the time? I do. And there are health benefits associated with this that improve by getting outside. One of the treatments for the Spanish Flu was sunshine. And it worked. Vitamin D creates a poorer environment for the virus to thrive in.

I dont think you understand how viruses work. If someone out in rural wake county gets it then takes a trip into Raleigh to see their uncle who gets it who then goes into a group then it spreads. Everyone has to stay home, stay away from people. Not just city folk. Everyone.

I'd love to see your source for VitD preventing Covid19.

30 seconds of google-fu returned a lot of studies about how Vitamin D helps immune system response to both bacterial and viral infections. One especially interesting one:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3756814/

Abstract
Vitamin D is well known for its classic role in the maintenance of bone mineral density. However, vitamin D also has an important “non-classic” influence on the body’s immune system by modulating the innate and adaptive immune system, influencing the production of important endogenous antimicrobial peptides such as cathelicidin, and regulating the inflammatory cascade. Multiple epidemiological studies in adults and children have demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased risk and greater severity of infection, particularly of the respiratory tract. Although the exact mechanisms by which vitamin D may improve immune responses to infection continue to be evaluated, vitamin D supplementation trials of prevention and adjunct therapy for infection are underway. Given its influence on the immune system and inflammatory cascade, vitamin D may have an important future role in the prevention and treatment of infection.

I would not guess it prevents Covid, but may assist the body in fighting it. Prevents is a strong phrase.

Great so generally helps you fight infection, does not prevent Covid 19 at all. So sure, VitD is healthy for you. VitD does not prevent Covid 19.

Nobody said it did, you're flogging a straw man created by you. Not that it's not entertaining to watch and all....

Most people stop talking once they've made an absolute idiot of themselves. You on the other hand,.......

Basic A&P teaches you that consuming a proper amount of nutrients and vitamins boosts your immune system. Take a lot of virology electives in the cosmetology course?

You think those folks are from outside Raleigh? Doubtful. Probably apartment and condo dwellers with no place to go. I’m guessing the suburb big house folks are staying closer to home.

And brief contact, outdoors, at reasonable distances is not likely the main way this is spread either.

The vitamin D info.

more commuters bringing it back to “the sticks” as well...

As far as vitamin D, no one claimin g it’s a cure for covid, but it’s an important component of the complex orchestra that is immunocompetence. Like vitamin C, A, follic acid blah blah. Anyone who thinks a nutrient is more than part of basal level health is misunderstanding vitamins.

Louisburg just issued an order to all businesses: 1 person allowed inside per 144 square feet.

Exactly what legal standings does an "order" have? Especially to private businesses. I could maybe see it with government buildings, but still

It's the "Because I Said So" clause of the State Constitution.

This, two days after a countywide curfew was imposed.

Disturbing that even in Franklin we're seeing stuff like this.

My wife and I have a house in Graham county which is in Western NC. We have not been able to go there in the past three weeks because they closed down the county. They have zero cases of the virus. They have no hospitals in the county. It is an inconvenience to us but I applaud them for the decision. As for vitamins, I start taking 8000 IU of vitamin D3 at the beginning of flu season and I've gotten the flu twice in the past ten years and it was a two day thing both times. Both times were when our son got the flu and came to our house for care. Your mileage may vary.

I hope that house serves no purpose as a bug out location. Being located in a county that will cut off its own real estate owners is a bit concerning...no?

I'll give you credit for trying I guess. Note that I didn't say prevent. It does make it harder to take hold and do it's thing. Not exactly the same thing but I would guess better than not taking it. I've been taking 5000 iu a day for about 8 years. I work kind of a split second and third shift. So I don't get a lot of time in the sun. Guess who rarely gets sick in the house? Guess who has dodged the flu multiple times? Guess who can't seem to catch a cold even from my wife? That would be me. Anecdotal? Sure. But add that to the Harvard study and others and things start to look pretty good. And a lot of folks, maybe even most, are Vitamin D deficient because we work inside so much.

And it is starting to look like you can add C and zinc to that list. Both of which I also take in some form.

Are you trying to make the point that boosting your immune system is not a good idea during a global pandemic? Take a look at how unhealthy a lot of the population is and it's no wonder this it taking hold. No herd immunity and compromised immune systems. That's not a good combination.

Zinc ( not galvanized nails). Play Simon Sez as told. Await stimulus check. This is only a test... Sqah-reek!... I repeat; this is only a test...

Listening to our Dear Leader right now. He's talking about issuing "orders" to use the Wally Market model of having everyone line up and limiting the number of people allowed into a grocery store. All it does is get everyone not keeping their distance OUTSIDE the store.

I didn't need any reason to not shop at WM but that really gave me one. I do NOT want to see that crap started everywhere else. I can also see this practice going seriously sideways once the public has had enough of it and as tensions continue to rise in the coming weeks. Cue the stampede that raids the store.
