Four years of Costa ownership and someone knocks them off the counter on to tile floor. Lens cracks. I sent them back and one lens is $105.00 for repair, tax and shipping not counting the $12.00 to look them over. I should have looked closer at the warranty instead of taking people’s word they had a lifetime guarantee. That only applies to defects in manufacturing.

But for someone who thought he would never spend $230.00 on glass lens sunglasses I may never buy anything else. Yes they are that good but beware when someone says they will repair or replace for $12.00.

I have a pair of permits there now for warranty on the frame. I’ll NEVER own another pair of sunglasses that aren’t costa glass lenses lol. Love them that much.

Yeah, I used to tell my son he was crazy for buying overpriced Costa. Then we went deep sea fishing and he let me wear them. Next week when we got back I immediately ordered a pair of Cat Cay 580 Glass with blue lens. When I sent mine off for repair three weeks ago I was so lost that I ordered another pair of Jose 580G. Costa says two more weeks on the repair for a total of five to six weeks shipping and repair. The new pair are taking two weeks to get so I’m wearing some $15.00 crappy shades. I have blues eyes with sensitivity to bright light. I get migraines in direct sunlight for long periods and I work outside or drive daily.

My wife said it was a waste of money also. Guess what she wears now after wearing mine at the beach for a few hours. Yes, they are that good. Those fishermen who founded that company have made a fortune.

I lost my favorite pair of prescription Costa's Sunday, so mad. Had them on the boat while I was swimming with my 5 year old. Wind must have knocked them off. No luck finding them.

That’s terrible. I was quoted $625.00 for the prescription lens alone. That would put them in the $800.00 plus range.

I wear the "Cape" and I love them. Actually have two pair, one I keep in the tackle box and the other pair on my go bag. My buddy knocked his into the river Sunday and we couldn't find them...sad day.

I got a pair of Corbinas awhile back and as soon as I put them on i knew I would never be buying Oakley’s ever again. I recently dropped them and got a small chip in the glass. It’s not too bad and I’ll just buy another pair rather than send them infor warranty, since I can get a pair of 580G for $124.

Where you getting that price if you care to disclose?

It’s a app called ExpertVoice. You join up and become a member or different “Teams” or “groups” and you get access to different brands based on what credentials you have. like Military, LE EMS and a bunch of other different ones. Once you’re verified, you can shop at whatever brands you have access too and you just order through the app and the product ships directly from the manufacturer.

Sorry for the threadjack, but I’ve had several pairs of Costa plastic(poly) lenses but never the glass variants. Anyone go from plastic to glass and are the glass that much better?

I’ve always stuck to the P series lenses for their ANSI rating.

I bought a pair of costas last year and thought I was crazy for spending that much. After having them for a year I absolutely love them. My cousin gave me a pair with a warped frame years ago, and I couldn’t find anyone they fit and never thought about sending them in. Finally gave them to my buddy and he sent them in to get checked out. He got a pair of glass lens joses for $150 for replacements. Now he won’t wear anything else either.

Ive got to ask - what is it about these that yall like so much?

Im a big Ray Ban fan, Wayfarers...classic style. Ive not looked into these, so Im curious why someone would try this brand over another.

Probably the fact that they've spent millions in Marketing in the last few years. Polarized sunglasses are good, great if you are a fisherman. If they stand by their warranty that's good.
I've owned $250 Oakleys, Ray Ban aviators, and $30 Bimini Bays. The polarized ones all work the same way to me, but if I lose a pair of $200 sunglasses off the boat I am gonna be pissed.

To "See whats out there"!!

Ive got some polarized Wayfarers, and I agree, Polarized rules.

I compare them to a nice rifle scope...….good glass. Costa and Maui Jim use great glass and the plastic lenses are pretty good too.

I’ve had Rayban and they are not in the same ballpark. I was given a pair of Oakley and they couldn’t compare. But at least for me the gray and amber lens in Costa never thrilled me like blue and green lens. Buy green for lake and trout stream fishing. Blue for ocean, beach activities, and working daily in the sun. My son’s green lens allowed me to see bait and fish in mountain streams like I’ve never seen before.

The day we went off shore grouper fishing I wore his for a while and saw lots of critters in the deep plus could see the hundreds of jelly fish not visible without Costa. The 12 dollar pair just never produced the same visuals. Hopefully my repair and new Costa Jose style arrive soon.

Have a pr of harpoons and the hinges oxidized to the point of turning green. It looked like the lenses were beginning to de-laminate, so I mentioned this while on the phone with the customer service rep. They sent me an entirely new pair for the $12 charge. I like Costa’s. I work outside all day, every day and I got a headache without sunglasses. Money well spent.

Just curious, is there any amount of rotation that makes it visible?

I have a pair of RayBans that I've had since 1985. I wore them all the time up until about 8 years ago when I bought a pair of Costas. I could not believe the difference.

I gave $80 for the RayBans and thought I was crazy for paying that much for a pair of sunglasses. But, if you figure the cost over 33 years, it's not so bad, under $2.50 per year. When I paid $139 for the Costas I couldn't believe I was doing it again. So far, I'm at just over $17 per year.

If your sunglasses need a warranty, you've overspent by at least a zero.
