Put a concrete cap on it. You can put a hand pump on the lid. Never hurts to have extra water source. If you decide to put in a electric pump you could water a lawn or garden.

You can easily form and pour your own lid by making a foem. I am pouring my own concrete countertops

I think I may have found the best of both worlds. Just need to find someone local who sells them.

I had a cast concrete cover on a well just like yours. The lid wasn’t that hard for me to slide to the side for access, but heavy enough to keep the kids out of it.
