I live very close to Hwy 321 and Garrison blvd in Gastonia. Have had coyotes in my back yard many times at night and near me in a business parking lot.

Surrounded by homes on all sides and a thru street in the back.

Whats the best way to get rid of these bastards with out having to build a sniper hide and use the suppressed savage mkII.

A good pellet rifle would at least discourage loitering. Carefully placed shot placement would definitely maime. A plus is that it’s good practice on live targets.

75 yd shot? Would probably be the average. They currently come close enough to trigger the motion lights. But stay moving around. Have had them on my covered patio and back porch. Have a bridge over a small creek about 30 yrds from the house they apparently use. Tonight I scared them out of the creek when I went out the back door to dump trash.

300blk bolt gun... Suppressed...

Have a 300blk sbr with a can to boot. Just trying to not go to jail. If only I didnt live slap smack in the middle of town. May have to peak out the attic windows to create a downward shot with the creek as a back stop.

You just need the right load and some lube... and then shout, "He was coming right for me!" Justified shooting...

On a serious note, wonder what the law is on crossbows?

Yes!! All BS aside. I put more rounds through my .117 cal break barrels pellet rifle that any other single weapon. Standing unsupported, I’m on a 12in steel gong at 50yrds. It’s taken a hell of a lot of shots and Kentucky windage but I’ve figured out where to hold to hit one of those metal phone things that sticks out of the ground about 20in or so, at approx. 100 yrds Roughly half the time.

It’s a challenge!

Popped a squirrel today, through chain link at about 40. I was absolutely giddy!!!

I'd use a live trap and a suppressed pistol. That way you're not having to deal with a coyote that is making a ton of noise alerting people to what is going on. You can shoot suppressed early in the morning without many noticing, even with houses being very close.

I kill starlings and English sparrows with mine at about 25 yards. I need better pellets, they just ain't accurate with anything they have at Walmart.

You can kill them with the right pellet in a air rifle/pistol if you want to trap them.

Agreed. I think most of my dispersion has to do with inconsistencies in the pellets. I was using some type of a match/wad cutter to begin with that was crazy accurate. Bought another can of them and it wasn’t the same. I think I got lucky on that first lot. They didn’t put the vermin down though. I’ve switched to Benjamin and have been happy with them. Def minute of squirrel.

A few years ago someone killed a coyote in Graham with a crossbow and bragged about it in the local paper. Apparently it is legal there at least.

The wooded area under "catawba creek" is where they are living or at least coming and going from

a friend of mine built a trap one end was mostly wire other end wood and wire put live chicken in one end encaged by wire and other end worked like a rabbit holler when coyote went in door shut dehind him shot him with 22 short hardly any noise. hes fixing another where he can take chicken out and put box over cage and hook to his car muffler. i think meet instead of chicken would work

i now know all of the houses that could belong to @Mike Overlay if i want to leave flaming (coyote) poop in a paper bag on the porch....

OR is this an elaborate trap set by @Mike Overlay to get back at other people????

He's gonna trap the mofos who decide to poop-bag himself and his neighbors.....don't you see that looping circle? 2 cars block each end and you have a deathtrap ambush.

You wanna end up in a pit in some dudes basement? Because THAT is how you end up in a pit in some dudes basement

Discharging a firearm, even a suppressed firearm, is probably not worth the risk.

So, poison bait or trap and spear. At the farm my cousins have adopted the pitchfork as the correct tool, it allows tossing as needed, but I like the idea of a spear.

Once you kill a few yotes, others will move in. So unless you remove all food sources, they are there to stay. Those missing cat and small dog signs you see plastered up on telephone poles lol...nope, yotes. FWIW..

Dunno about Gastonia, but in CLT, any projectile-firing is illegal w/in city limits (except at ranges/designated areas, yeah, yeah). Even a slingshot ist verboten!

Whether or not they choose to enforce... or if your neighbors report it... nearby folks might consider you're doing them a favor, too.

Proceed accordingly.

blowgun with puffer fish poison on the darts.

In case you were wondering...

A blowgun with the "huff" of an air compressor behind it will give the darts enough velocity to penetrate a car door.

watching no country for old men?

I tried it a few times out of boredom. The darts will penetrate a 1" thick pine board by about an inch. Completely penetrate a quarter by about 1/4 of an inch. They'll pass right thru a robin and leave the stabilizer sticking out of the point of entry with the steel dart no where to be found.

I should try again and see what kind of distance I can get out of them.

If you can bait them in a little closer.......bow or crossbow from an upstairs window. Actually......i think i could do 75 yards with a crossbow. Just be sure its not a pet! I probably wouldnt want to use a firearm with so much around you. If from an upstairs window, it should help the arrow go down.....in the ground.
