Any of you guys near Charlotte ever cut off your bayonet lug, sight post and swivel attachment? I want to put a rail on my AR pistol that has an A2 front post. I've watched videos of guys doing it but I'm not so sure about cutting on a brand new gun! Any advice?

I’m 2hrs from Charlotte but I’ve chopped one before. I cut the bulk off with a dremel cutting wheel then drew lines where I wanted to round it out and taped the rest off (so I could have advanced warning if I was cutting too low). Once the finer details were cut in, i smoothed it with a sanding stone. Last step was painting it black with a Birchwood Casey stay black pen

I've butchered one. It's not difficult. I'm about an hour:15 south of Charlotte.

Yeah it’s really easy. Dremmel with a cut off wheel and it’ll be gone in 60 seconds.

I’ve cut one before and it was stupid easy. It’d be pretty difficult to mess it up, but even if you did then the worse case scenario is you just have to buy a new gas block for a few bucks.

Cut it, round off the edges and hit it with some high temp paint and it’ll be good as any low pro gas block out there.

Iraqveteran8888 used to have a good video on how to do it. Looks like YouTube may have pulled it.

It’s easy though. Just chop the sight off flat across the top, chop the bayonet lug and sling loop flat and then use the grinder to round everything off so it fits under your rail.

Then paint the whole thing with high temp paint and slap it back on the barrel.

...if you wanna ditch the whole thing, I have a couple regular gas blocks sitting around from when I swapped to adjustable versions on suppressed SBRs. You can swing by and grab one.

But I’d probably just hack it off and use sharpie, Aluminum black, or spray paint to finish it.

Done a dozen or so. You have the option of disassembling the FSB/barrel or doing attached to the gun. For cutting use dremel or bandsaw as suggested. Bench grind the corners to fit under new rail. I use Brichwood Casey's Super Blue (cold blue). Now couple other things to consider. What new rail are you going to use and how is it attached? Will it use the existing Delta Ring, barrel nut and front handguard retainer? With Low Profile Gas Blocks cheap as $15 (will need to dimple barrel for set screws) you may want to retain your FSB for future use. Save also the taper pins which you need to reinstall the FSB either whole or cut down.

Thanks guys. I haven't got a new rail yet so it will be a little while but I am going to chop that sucker off of there!

When I was wrenching on my PSA M4 I elected to knock out the pins to remove the sight post and install an adjustable gas block rather than cutting the A2 sight, it honestly isn’t that big of a deal and I used a Harbor Freight punch and a 3lb hammer.
