All the convo on the Ruger Wrangler got me thinking about how I'd like to get a DA/SA .22 - but as much as I would like a S&W kit gun they have gone out of sight price wise. I also would like to really use it like a kit gun or truck gun and don't want to do that to a collector piece.

The LCRx 22LR in 3" would maybe be about right, but not sure I care for the poly and kinda dorky look but haven't tried one. What else is there that's available these days ? SP101, Tauri, and...?

Ruger GP 100 10-shot
S&W 63, 43, M17

Gee, I could go on and on ...

Your choices are Numerous!

I had a 63 and sold it when I bought a 22C. It was a very accurate gun and I really liked it but it was a real pain to clean. If I didn't enjoy shooting the 22c I would buy another in a minute.

I’d like to pick up a 4” 617 or SP101. I’ve had both in the past, I like the 617 somewhat more, but both are great options.

I have a 6” Rossi Plinker. They also have 2” & 4” versions. 8-shot. I don’t shoot it much, but it’s something I use to introduce new shooters to a revolver.

Much easier to shoot a 6” 22LR than a 2” .357 :D

I have the 10-shot GP100 and love shooting it, but it's a bit much for a kit gun. I bought it to train my DA trigger finger, and I shoot it as accurately as any handgun I've ever shot.

For your use I'd probably try to find an old H&R top-break model, because I've always wanted one anyway.

Don't rule out the Charter Arms for the traditional look. Pathfinder I think it's called. I have S&Ws but would be hard put to pay what they are going for today.

And that's the thing- from rough round numbers from Gunbroker: SP101= $560 GP100 22LR= $650, S&W 63 = $570 S&W 617= $670 S&W Model 34 = $$$ etc.
Not sure I "want one" that much - lets see- do I want two used Model 10s or one 617 ? I'll just be patient and see what turns up, I'm in no rush.

Forgot to mention that I'm looking to spend under $500 if possible.

High Standard Sentinels can be found at reasonable prices and older Rossi revolvers also. I'd rather have one of those than a new Taurus.

Way less than $500 and better quality than currently made Taurus/Rossi offerings. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/810065409

I wanted a stainless .22WMR S&W for a long time and didn't want to spend the cash for one. I ran across a LNIB 4" stainless Rossi .22WMR and couldn't be happier with it. It is probably the most accurate rimfire revolver I have owned. I wouldn't trade it for a S&W unless I got to shoot the S&W first to see how it shot.

I have one DA/SA 22lr, an H&R 949. The Double Action is like 15lbs so it never gets used. Plus it's a 'cowboy' styled gun with a loading gate.........

to be honest at the prices of the 617 and others, I would just get another .38spc since I can reload that at rimfire prices.

My first revolver was a S&W Model 17, so I can appreciate the appeal of a DA .22 wheelgun. No question that DA Rimfire revolvers are pricey and more fiddly to load and unload than a centerfire revolver. Another drawback is that Rimfire ammo needs a hard blow for reliable ignition so the DA pull on a .22 revolver is going to be harder than what you fan get on, say, a .38 of similar design.

I find that I shoot .22 semiautos at least ten times more often than the DA revolver.

If I were shopping for a .22 revolver I would take a hard look at the new Ruger SA.

Crap I gotta be on the road for a couple weeks- will check on them when I get back so fingers crossed.

Edit- although the more I look around if they have 13 brand new likely they just chose the wrong photo and it really is for the 2" version.
