Anyone know if those rifle length springs will work in an A5 system?

Vltor A5 buffer system. Between rifle and carbine length buffer tube. Uses rifle spring with in-between buffer. Works really well and reliable across a wide range of ammo.

Another way to tune your buffer system to the rifle. I would love to see where the A5 system gives advantages over an adjustable gas block.

It’s not meant to replace an AGB for tuning. It’s meant to be a baseline for higher reliability in a shorter-than-rifle-length system making buffer cycling speed less impacted by higher/lower pressures. Can be further tuned with different weight buffers just like any other buffer system, but not really the main point behind it.

Plus it just shoots so damn soft and sweet while still being able to use a collapsible stock.

    ETA: A5 with an AGB...now you’re talking!

Anyone have any feedback on these springs? Is there any appreciable performance difference from your run of the mill?

I’ve seen quality differences in buffer springs but other than buying light and heavy power springs, can’t recall ever noticing a performance difference.

You wanna try one? I have 5 sitting here still in their packaging. I’m hoping they quiet down on the suppressed subsonic stuff.

I haven't used one of these so I am spit balling with physics a bit. 4 things will affect the cyclic rate: gas pressure, buffer weight, spring pressure, length of travel.

Gas pressure is pretty constant from round to round with a specific ammo.
Is length of travel a constant? With the increase in buffer tube length there is an increase in the buffer length. I haven't verified but I bet the cycle length is the same between the 3 systems. So let's assume that it is a constant.

That being said, that leaves 2 variables that can affect the cyclic rate of the buffer.
    1. buffer weight
    2. spring pressure

    All correct.

Read up on the major differences in the rifle and carbine buffer systems. The A5 fills the gap of the advantages of rifle system with a collapsible stock. It’s a neat system. If you’re around my neck of the woods at any point I’d be happy to let you shoot a few very different purpose-built ARs with the systems on them, suppressed and without. You’ll notice the difference if you’ve spent a considerable amount of time behind the AR platform.

I think they've made a difference in performance, though I'm sure it isnt much by itself. Improving the AR $5-10 at a time.

The sound difference is noticeable. I used to feel the twong in my teeth.

Id love to run that comparison. I have been wanting to try one out myself beside a springco tuned carbine system and a basic carbine setup. I sold off my only rifle system a while back so can’t tune that one to compare.

Problem is I like to tune my rifles to run on tula and then run whatever ammo I want for reliability. So that kind of ruins the perfectly tuned for the ammo aspect.

lots of deals on this site.
Pick up a NiCoTef cam pin for 4.95 and 2 buffer springs.

I'm running a rifle length and carbine buffer from DA with no complaints. Less "sproing", but beyond that, it's a spring, and it works.

easier on the BCG because of slower lock times, and thus a softer recoil impulse

I believe that with Rifle length gas system, but don't see much difference with a rifle buffer/spring.

I wonder how much of this A5 "softer" feel is really just a heavier buffer giving that impression?

Have to try it for yourself and see. I went from a heavy carbine buffer to an A5 with same weight buffer and difference is noticeable. Made a huge difference in my Noveske build when I went suppressed years ago with no AGB. No more BCG slamming into the back of the tube. With my others that are running AGBs, I don’t have to tune for weak ammo unsuppressed so it will run anything. I just tune it to behave like it want it to for my loads, which aren’t hot but not weak either, and it will reliably shoot anything I run through it without worrying about FTEs/FTLs or failure to lock on empty mag. It’s a simple, well thought-out and well-executed system.

That’s a sensible explanation, thank you.
I would like to try a good session with one. Would like to compare one to a JP captured spring. I do like the smoothness those provide.
I’ve tried about every other combo available. Carbine/rifle/etc.

It seems this is geared toward suppressors. Probably not the product for me as I don’t like shooting ARs with cans, and have gone away from heavy buffers. I feel that “softness” is objective, and what I am going for is “flatness”. Heavy buffers exacerbate the closing pulse, IMO. For MY use anyway.

My buffers weigh less than an ounce. Rifle buffer might be just over an ounce. With *gasp* -10% spring as well.

But always want to try something new! I love ARs dearly and everything about them. Especially tinkering with their performance. My favorite guns by far. Amazing machines they are!

I think you’re about an hour away. If you want to come out one day I’d be happy to let you shoot a couple with the A5, suppressed and not. I’d love to put a few rounds through one with the JP system too!
