We bought a 2016 f150 on feb 6th and it has one of the huge sunroofs in it. The monster goes all the way into the back seat area. A week after we got it my fiancé called and said it wouldn’t open and the cover wouldn’t close. Took it back to the dealership where we purchased and they replaced it under warranty, we got the truck back on 2/22 after they had it over a week. Went grocery shopping this morning and was going to open it on the way home. Heard a pop and it wouldn’t open. Now it’ll close on one side but not the other. I’m pretty pissed and will likely look into selling the truck after it is repaired again. Haven’t even had it a month and this is the second time it’ll be in the shop for the same issue.

I’ve got a Mini S convertible. Same issue. It seems they use a cable on each side and they’re prone to breaking. In my case, the repair cost will be near the car’s value.

The geniuses at ford designed these with plastic tracks and other parts. The last one was blamed on a rain trough busting and jamming the tracks. Pretty sure the same thing has happened again. Today was the first day we’ve tried it since it was picked up from the first repair with all the rain we’ve had. I like the truck but don’t believe in keeping issues around.

I don’t care for having a sunroof, but the truck met the rest of the criteria we were looking for so we bought it. The truck has the upgraded towing package, 4x4 and the 5.0. Other than the sunroof it was everything we were looking for it just sucks having this issue.

My '99 Honda's sun roof still works like new and hasn't leaked a drop in 240k miles!

Wonder if water got inside the mechanism and froze with all that cold weather we had.

I don’t think it got that cold in the last week but I could be wrong. Either way it’ll be fixed under warranty yet again. Any body interested in a low mileage f150?

The older I get the less options I like on a car or truck because I know one of them is gonna break and and tick me off or cost a small fortune with all the electronic stuff to repair.

Good luck with that one.

You could pull the fuses so it always stays closed. Shame to have to get rid of it and take a hit.

I see so many cars come in too the shop with electrical damage in cars that are convertibles or have sunroofs. Not to mention mold mildew and just plain stink from 15 years worth of wet crumbs and food residue that starts to decay.

Dropped it off yesterday afternoon for repair. Last time took 1.5 weeks, they are saying 1-2 days this time. I asked them to get me a price on buying the truck back while they have it. The dealership where we bought the truck and is handling the repairs has been great to work with.

Actually, you might hope they take longer and/or that it keeps breaking. Read this:

https://www.ncdoj.gov/Consumer/Automobiles/Lemon-Law.aspx
That info help a lot. Does it only cover brand new cars or does it also apply to used cars still covered under factory warranty. We’ve only got a few months and around 2500 miles left on factory warranty. Would the lemon law still apply after the warranty has expired if we have to replace the sunroof again.

I’m not sure. You might try this:

Reading the link, it only applies to new vehicles within the first 24 months/24000 miles and the part having issues is covered by the manufacturers warranty. Based off of our personal experience with a leaking sunroof on a new vehicle, it did not fall under the Lemon Law. But I am not a lawyer nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

My girlfriend bought a brand new ford a year ago one problem after the next to new to have all those problems put 2 transmissions in it in the first 10,000 miles thank god for the warranty

I have a ‘16 F-150 with the full size sun roof as well. Mine did the exact same thing about 6 months into owning it. I took it to the dealer and they replaced it with a different type of bracket or something that holds it in the track. They told me that this was a known problem on that year and that Ford redesigned it. After they put the upgraded mine to the new hardware I haven’t had any problems since. I would bet that your dealer simply replaced it with the flawed hardware.

The service guy told us the same thing on the first replacement. Said that it was a flawed design that was updated and that they replaced it with the new design. I’m not sure what has happened to it and haven’t got a call from the dealership about it yet.
