Anyone else here play darts? I started trying to learn last year. I'm still piss-poor, my '01 average is only about 45 before I get to the outs and start chasing doubles around the board. I did just hit my first 180 today! Probably no big deal for some of you guys but it has taken me over a year to hit one - and I'm sure I still won't be able to do it consistently. Might be another year before I hit it again...

This is the set-up I built in my office to play on:

I'd like to play online but I'm kind of intimidated, it's a learning curve with the webcam and learning to use the sites. I've been looking at WDA. Anybody else play online that would be interested in helping me get started? FTF is ok too if you're in the Apex - Cary - Sanford area.

Only casually. My dad was really big in the local San Diego leagues before I was born and it’s been a thing in his house ever sense. When my wife and I got our place I started working on her to allow a set up in the living room. Landed on this. With doors closed, most folks walk by and don’t even notice. Great place to pin cards, pics and such.

We rarely play 301/501 anymore. To much math a few bourbon and cokes in. Mostly cricket with other couples that only ever throw here. On the rare occasion my dad, brother and I can actually get together, the competition can get pretty serious. The few times we’ve been out and about together, we ranged from seriously stomping to getting seriously stomped. 1B27100A-6209-4636-AC43-A87FFBB12968.jpeg

Used to a bunch, while stationed in Germany. Had a nice set of heavy steel tips for regular boards & some very nice lighter weight plastic tips for the bar machines.

I like to drink beer. They won't let me shoot guns while drinking but they will let me toss darts. Therefore, I like darts.
Amen! A couple beers helps me relax and throw better. A couple more and I'm all over the board.

That's an awesome back board. Did you make that yourself? Lots of wine drinking to get there...

Yeah, I put it together. No, I did not drink all that grape juice.... EBay for the win on that. With the folks we knew would be throwing/varying skill levels, we wanted to make sure we were not going to have a problem with with big misses happening outside the cabinet.

My personal rule of thumb is "more than two, less than twelve". I've been playing for close to 30 years, but don't play nearly as much as I once did.

The over hyped Wuhan Flu will make it tough to get out and play.

Find a league. The Triad area has an "amateur" Sunday night league that's a little lower key then the PDA leagues so it's more friendly for new players. Or if you want to play with the big boys find a more advanced league. http://www.piedmontdarts.org/Dartlinks.htm has some links to NC Dart Associations.

Poke around and find a luck-of-the-draw game nearby.

Just have to move the pool table chair and it’s ready to roll. Since I tore my bicep tendon I haven’t played at all. I am not bad lefty, but usually only go that route against the kids.

Used to play quite a bit of cricket back in the day.

We used to play weekly while downing pint after pint of delicious IPAs at the Horse Brass Pub back in Portland. Scotch egg, pint, darts, and a pack of smokes. Heh.

Havent put up my own board in years....since 06 (dang that was a long time ago!). Still have it and my darts, but no clue where Id even get flights these days.

I think there was a irish bar in Boone that used to do league games, but they changed hands years back and I havent been there in forever anyway. Kettell brewing in Banner Elk used to have a board up but it was down few weeks ago when we were there last...

I used to sucker people for $ in college. Cricket for .25 a game. But you could double the bet every time you hit a double, triple or bull. :p

I made a lot of beer money back then.
You'd have to play me lefty like one of the kids then!

That is a killer game room. Sorry about the arm, I hope it heals quickly & completely.

I'd have to put some plywood over that door to keep the glass in it.

I used to play for about a year, about 20 years ago!

But I'd go play, despite my suck level. being high. Have a buddy who would join us. He claims he's good. Which means he is, because he's good at everything.
Have darts around here somewhere, both steel and soft tips.

Should meet at Pantanas and throw some.
Then, and can beat anyone who likes to lose at pool, and redeem some self esteem.

We set up a board in the bonus room when COVID first hit and we were all confined. Far from having any measurable skill... I've only managed to hit (2) triple 20's before.

Nice shooting!

I had a coal stove in the basement up north. While banking the coal, I would throw darts while the vent was open and the coals were building a glow. Got pretty good every winter. I like those cheap wooden darts with feathers that they had in bars then, can't find them now.

Google sez Pantana's is 'temporarily closed". I guess due to the 'rona. How about Upper Deck in Cary? It might have to wait until after the new year, this is usually a busy time for folks.

I have no idea. I own 5 sets and don't remember the specifics of any of them. I can tell you that if you watched me throw all 5 of them on 5 different nights, you would think that the type of dart does not matter much. 1 night in 5 I am a decent player. The other 4 times I look like I borrowed the darts from the bar.

24 gram here. I always wanted to get a heavier set amd also the shafts that spin the flights so if you hit one accidently when doing a good group you didnt bounce the dang dart off onto the floor.

Dang it.....now I wanna put up my board...

The flight will spin on the Harrows Clic system I linked above, and the shafts are nylon instead of aluminum so they flex without bending. I recommend them.

It's been forever since I've played Cricket.
