while resizing some 9mm today it hit me, why not put an electric motor on here to do the work.

So what about a linear motor and a variable controller? Looks like the arm can mount on the bottom of the ram, wire up the controller and we’re off to the races right?

This is just for resizing bullets after coating

Good point. And I would need a toggle switch to reverse the polarity. Might need to look at a cam instead

I can't see how this would be advantageous at all, lol. Plus a lot of just knowing how things are going comes from the feel of the ram in your hand when seating the bullets, primers, etc.

I once had the hydraulic conversion for my Mec presses and thought I was the coolest mofo on the block. PITA to get everything timed and it did work as advertised. As @Flashpoint said, you lose the feel of the machine and that can become a problem real quick when loading shot shells.... I used it for maybe a month on all of the presses and then the attraction wore off and I passed it on to someone else with aspirations of greatness. Never looked back....

I think you’re just thinking about it for sizing, not for reloading, correct?

Hook up a foot switch and have at it, just keep your fingers out of the way.

Have you tried inverting your press?

Yes, sorry, this is just for resizing. I didn't think about inverting it, that's an interesting idea

If this will make you happy, you do it. Don't let the nay sayers bring you down. You can do it.

See I can be supportive.:D

Air actuator would likely be smoother and cheaper (and no heat/sparks).

I agree that with the loss of feel of the press, things could go off the rails pretty fast.... and besides, you'd lose those popeye sized forearms.

Found this one on amazon, just might be the ticket. There's nothing around the table that subject to fire or heat. I still have the progressive press to keep the biceps huge

If you happen to get a finger in the way, an automated actuator isn't going to know the difference. I don't think I would try it without some type of personal protection system in place. Other than that, I think it would be cool to figure out a way to make it work.
