D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine filed a lawsuit against gun manufacturer Polymer80 Inc., which sells untraceable partially-assembled semi-automatic rifles and handguns, for advertising and selling illegal guns to District consumers.

The civil lawsuit, filed in D.C. Superior Court, alleges the Nevada-based company violates D.C. law by falsely representing that its weapons are legal in the District and by selling illegal firearms.

I think they “collect” more than 1,500 guns per year, if 250 of those over 3.5 years started as 80% kits that means that they are less than 5% of their problem.

There are easier ways for bad guys to get guns than to build them from kits, take away the kits and they’ll just change sources.

It's about suing them out of business and not a legal rationalization. However, would it be my company and I lost it, there would be some detailed drawings, 3d print files and molds floating around.

They sell an BATF approved and legal product...and, it isn't a firearm.

It’s about driving them into debt to make it stop. Legal or illegal. We are closing in on serious gun and ammo laws in the next 5 years in my opinion. If states really wanted to they could damage the industry deeply in legal fee defenses.

Agreed. Just as always, someone broke some laws. It was not Polymer 80. But, let's go after them instead of the real law breakers.

Does DC have laws that allow people to sue for damages and/or legal fees after being exonerated in court? Because it's a pretty open and shut case.

This seems like one of the dumbest and factually inaccurate lawsuits I’ve heard of. They don’t sell firearms. Their product doesn’t even come close to being what the ATF defines as a firearm. The ATF has confirmed they’re not firearms. P80 can’t control what customers do with their product anymore than a spray paint mfg can.

Just as soon as the PLCAA goes away, it's gonna be nasty
Depends on how creative the lawyers want to be. PLCAA protects against firearms and ammunition. P80 is not a firearm. If the lawyers want to push the angle that P80 advertises that their products let you make your own specifically to avoid required registration - it could be a stretch, but they could have an argument. The anti-gun lawyers know they usually have no case against the guns/manufacturers regarding the actual law, so they're flanking and hitting them with all sorts of other things now.

    This won't get anywhere.
You can sue anyone for anything, doesn't mean a judge will hear it or that you can win.
I can file a lawsuit against bigfelipe because I don't like his avatar. But it doesn't mean I will be heard in court.
Lawsuits or threats thereof are a means to scare the defendant to cease and desist selling in their wonderful DC.
    Who lives in DC anyway?

Now you are onto something. Let’s file a class action suit against @bigfelipe because we don’t like his avatar!

Nothing. What he said tickled my funny bone. Thought it might tickle yours, too, in its absurdity. :D

Your avatar is actually pretty cool.

Does DC have any laws against shooting people? Have they considered enforcing those? Or encouraging people to follow those laws with swift, severe, and long-lasting punishment?
