This is a question I thought was easily answered until recently. Is a man who has previously been married qualified to be a deacon in the church?

According to my church constitution it does not disqualify someone. But shouldn't you as a person and believer in the word remove your name?

I always thought “one wife” meant he didn’t have more than one so he would not be scattered in so many directions. This was in a time when a man could have several wives. His life is to be examined anyway so why would divorce come up separately?

David had dozens of wives and hundreds of concubines and he was king.
Old Testament, no Churches, and just for giggles, he would not have qualified for the position of Deacon. He was a murderer and an adulterer.

I think this is going to depend on the church. Some churches are more or less strict about such things.

Agreed. Some churches will disqualify someone who is divorced because his wife was unfaithful. Others will not disqualify anyone because of divorce, period.

Whether someone removes his own name from consideration is a matter of personal conviction, regardless of church/denominational policy.

Deacon Jones was a king! That's about all I've got. Go for what your heart tells you. It's all the rage these days.

Depends on whether or not the prior spouse is still living, in short.

LOL! Haven't thought about Deacon Jones in a while. Used to drive by his house regularly while on work trips. His wife knew how to spend his money!

Greatest lineman in our lives. Not even close. Granted he did get to use the head slap. But he really wanted to use it. That attitude helped.
