Agree? Disagree? Personally, I believe that there are advantages and disadvantages with either choice. But I am interested in hearing what you think, given the state of society today and the trends that I think we all agree are (at the very least) "concerning".

TL/DR: They are both pro on open carry.

For me it's contextual. Depends on where it is and the audience. I don't have a problem with it personally if I see it. Saw one yesterday at a Tractor Supply in Shelby. My first thought was, is that a Bersa? Other than that, eh. I think of it as a tool and carry as convenient, but I don't think open carry is tactically sound in public. Makes you a target and the first guy to shoot. Just because you can doesn't always mean you should. In SC you can't and guns aren't uncommon, so just assume everyone is carrying. Makes everyone polite. ;)

Agree with above on context. Normal conditions concealed is greater advantage. Post apocalypse where you always a target, speed more advantageous ( same reason mil and LEO open carry).

that being said, as of late, I have been using my 2nd amendment as my 1st amendment. If y’all see dude open carrying a Grock 19 w/ RMR in triangle area that’s almost certainly me.

... as of late, I have been using my 2nd amendment as my 1st amendment

And that's exactly why I phrased the OP as I did. I can see some value to "making the statement" more today than ever before.

Makes you a target and the first guy to shoot.

Whereas both of them view it as a deterrent as well as an important statement. I think either case might be equally likely.

I am for Constitutional Carry primarily because it is as the Founders meant it to be. After this election, if we don't get it in the first term back to Columbia, I don't think we will ever get it here.
I am lucky to have a friend that is a S.C. Senator, yes ..he is my friend. He has gone out on a limb for my family and was successful. We had an in depth discussion on Sunday before the Run Off. He said he would move on it when they went back. He did Not promise success, just that he would try.
I probably would open carry if I was in the yard or on the Range and decided to run 1 mile away to the DG. Just out of convenience. Other than that I don't think I would do it as routine. I have never bought the "first person to be shot" idea. My choice to OC just doesn't really fit into my backing of OC.
I was 1 of 10,000 that was instrumental in riding to the S.C. Statehouse to protest our Helmet Law. We got it overturned. When I ride, I wear a helmet. This is my stance too on OC.

Tactically...again...we must all seek our own salvation. We should be Able to make that decision.

Getting older has taught me that flying under the radar has plenty of advantages. I live in Durham and feel if i open carried it would be easy to target me . We have plenty of gang activity , so to be surrounded by several punks and blindsided sucker punched and relieved of my sidearm is not that far- fetched. I pocket carry when I leave the house and try to just be another old fat guy in the crowd.

I think I'm seeing more OC lately, especially when I travel between Wake County and the coast. Story in the paper today says that Lee County NC Sheriff processed over 900 PPP's in June vs. about 100 last June (And he made a strong pro-2A statement about the need to protect your family). Durham County 5x. So you have thousands of new gun owners who don't have a CHP and mobs and gangs running unchecked in the streets.

Most criminals have achieved that goal by making terrible decisions guided by a lifetime of drug and alcohol abuse. Don't want to risk my welfare in the hope that some street animal is going to make rational logical decisions. I believe that they act on impulse in the absence of any thought process. I may look like a poor target choice to those of a sound mind but i don't want to appear as a blue light special to any future felon wannabe. I appreciate your vote of confidence

I carry open or concealed depending on the situation. Most of the time, it is concealed. There have been times it has been open because it was the only way I could legally carry. There have been other times I carried openly as I thought letting "them" see I wasn't an easy mark was advantageous to me.

I don't begrudge anyone how they choose to carry, but I do hope it is with some thought, some tact, and good retention.

One thing about open carry is it doesn’t require permission of the crown. Concealed carry shouldn’t either.
