Deep River IDPA

It was the first competition for me, and had a good time. I learned just how bad I am at shooting, what I need to practice, and I need to get sights my old eyes can see.

It was a good day for a match. However, I am concerned that the end might be near. This is the first time ever I've run a 1911 in 9mm on the clock where the gun didn’t upchuck every other stage.

I took a pistol class maybe three years ago with Ricky Harris, and his first statement at the beginning of the 8 hour class was, “We’re going to exploit your weaknesses”, and boy did we. I had been shooting matches for maybe a year or two with no real improvement in scores. I left that class tired and depressed. So depressed about my poor shooting that I really didn’t want to shot for about two weeks. I finally shook that off and started working on my weaknesses. My accuracy improved steadily. My speed didn’t, but lets face it, I’m an old fart, although @dmarbell, who is at least 20 years older (okay, two years older) than me proved that you can improve speed as well. He shot an average of 3 seconds per stage faster than me today.

Yes when your gun runs and Amp Mangum's gun malfunctions several times, I half expected a rift in the space-time continuum to appear and Gog and Magog to stream in.

Your accuracy has improved to a point where you are considered the deadliest pistolero since Wild Bill. (Or so say Amp and Doc Holiday.)

If I hadn’t shot the dog in the wrong place. Twice. I could have beat Rusty.

You went out and did it. You had fun. You didn't get tossed out. You did good. Stop bitching now and go have more fun! 😇

My first match with the RIA 1911 in 9mm it had a mass of issues. Second time out....perfect! Go figure.

After off-loading about six too many 1911’s in 9mm, a big poroblem I have discovered is how the top round in loaded mags tends to walk out a smidge while carrying them around in a mag pouch, especially if you walk a half mile between stages like we do at Deep River. So now when I am preparing to shoot a stage, I push the top round back in on all the loaded mags I’ll be using. I do not experience this effed up phenomenon with 45acp in the 1911 platform.

I dont know about other nearby ranges, that was their last one until January.
Bitching and stressing I'm not.
As long as I have been shooting and familiar with guns, I was hoping for better results. I had fun, and am motivated to put up better results next time.
