Man, I would give anything to witness or have video of these guys dragging a dead deer through some of these Karen’s yard. For those that don’t know, Tega Cay is a “peninsula” town that juts out into Lake Wylie (South Charlotte). Think of it as a poor man’s Long Island, with the emphasis on NY. It’s a place where the Tega Cay PD will draw their weapon on you as they drag you out of your vehicle if your tag is 2 weeks out of date.

Anyway, wonder why they get to hunt at night with a spotlight, while out of season? What constitutes a “sharp shooter”? Why not let real hunters pay to bow hunt? I’ve seen the deer first hand at Hilton Head and it is kinda weird seeing them move around like pets without any fear. I can’t wait for the first instance of Karen and a “sharp shooter” engaging in conflict over a dead deer, I just hope someone gets a video.

NC has urban archery season which allows towns and cities to extend the hunting season by a month for bow only.

Of course, Karens don't like hunting in general and hold a special hatred in their hearts for bow hunting up until their hostas get eaten.

Sure, but if you know Tega Cay, anything that has anything to do with “hunting”, must be militarized.

This is nothing new. I used to go with a guy when I was 10 or so years old that would cull deer at the little airport in my home town right in the middle of town. The only thing confusing to me is the $94k to shoot and donate 80 deer but it is the government after all. Farmers can do the same thing on private property with proper permits.

I get that it’s not new, but the location is what’s going to be the funny part. And yes, $94K? Who gets that money?

I think the town is absorbing the processing costs so the meat can be donated. That's only $600 per deer to hire a "sharpshooter" with a "silencer" and to have the deer processed.

I remember well the concerns of the suburban women for the deer and coyotes in my old home. They were all crazy about the rights of the animals right up until a deer jumped in front of a school bus and had a close call with the bus jumping the curb and coming to a stop on a sidehill that could have rolled the bus. Then they understood what happens when there's too many in the woods and backed off they protests at city hall. That is, until the talk of culling coyotes came up. When they learned the cull method unvolved leg traps and a club or shotgun, again with the protesting...until a few 5 pound designer dogs disappeared out of backyards.

I didn’t think about that. I don’t even remember the last time I paid to have a deer processed so I have no idea what that costs. I guess the meat grinder I bought has saved me more money than I thought.

I went to university of michigan in ann arbor. this all sounds very familiar.
have they tried sedating and spaying/neutering the deer yet? or putting feed piles out spiked with birth control?

yep, but there was concern raised about culling happening over feed piles. I think the activists got their stories conflated once someone googled what a feed pile was in relation to deer.

They eventually got around to mentioning birth control, which does not work and completely screws up the breeding cycle of the deer. Someone is making money fooling liberals into believing in it, over, and over, and over. Nevermind that it does not work as stated.

The development in northern York County has been pretty agressive. They have been clearing land and building/developing for a solid 10+ years. Nearby community Lake Wylie has a moratoruim on building. There is no room for anymore development.

The Tega Cay idiots need to look at themselves as the problem. They are the reason the deer have been pushed into neighborhoods. Tega Cay is on a peninsula....
More development on a peninsula that has water on 3 sides...
Where the hell are the deer supposed to go??

Who vets the shooters, and to what standard(s)??? Who is liable if something goes wrong??

Government = Idiocy

I'd bet the guy that gets the job is connected to someone in city hall.

A lot of that is going on in along the cape fear river. Wildlife used to have a decent barrier that had “town” on one side and the river on the other with a decently long but somewhat narrow block of woods that started just south of between the two. D R Horton and the like come through throw together cookie cutter houses built with 10’ of yard beside your neighbors house. I used to get in the app Nextdoor and read what some of these people wanted to do about the coyote and deer problems they now have and their ideas were interesting.

The pic of google earth with yellow highlighted is the general area. It starts almost at the Port and runs to Snows Cut bridge.

The woman on the CLT news just referred to the sharp shooters as part of the USDOT. I swear she said USDOT. I’m thinking she meant USDA? What kind of “snipers” do all these damn government agencies have?

Someone has to shoot all that ammo they been buying, otherwise their budget gets cut next year.

animals like deer are a big hazard for roadways and such. why wouldn't they have sharpshooters on staff?

I think the Karens would be all for it as long as they do not have to see it. The town of St. James in Brunswick County had lots of deer that would eat the shrubs and other ornamental vegetation of the residents who migrated down here from NJ and a few other places. They started a program of eliminating all the deer. The Karens were the loudest voice for it. They evidently were fairly successful. I no longer see deer inside the "bubble" when I venture through the gates to visit a friend. They now want to get rid of the turkeys because they disturb the landscaping pine straw.

They better be glad St. James wasn't built beside a hog farm.

"The sharpshooter will........."

"Sharpshooter" sounds so much more pleasant than "sniper". What's the difference? Hollywood and the MSM sure like to throw around the word "sniper" when it's associated with an evil black "sniper" rifle.

I'd bet we have quite a few "sharpshooters" on this forum more qualified than the guys brought in to do this job.

Marksman is the word I use. Well, Markswoman. Or Marksperson. Or Marksdumbass.

Looking at these comments makes me think NC is swinging hard the other way.

Hell, let me and a couple friends in there, we will do it for the meat. But it won't work, taking out 180 deer from that herd won't put a dent in it. They need to up that number to about 600-700 or so, but even if they did that, if they didn't have a steady hunt every year they will come right back in a few years.
Why do they need sharpshooters, these are neighborhood deer, ain't hard to get within 10 feet of them for the most part, a suppressed 22ruger, pop them in the head.

This is what happens when you let "experts" that have no real world experience make the rules. They half measure things to appease the idiots. Make something that could be a money maker into a money pit. And in the end, make an idea that could be effective ineffective. Then they will go waste even more money on less effective ideas like birth control. All the while calling the hunters and conservationists barbarians and idiots while we just roll our eyes at their stupidity. It's sad and amusing at the same time.

It would not suprise me if the $$ for this "program" is being doled out to some friends/aquaintences of the Tega Cay govt. officials.

Is'nt govt. supposed to offer stuff like this to qualified people via competitive bid???

“Culling has been going on for many, many years and it is not effective,” another resident said. “You cannot keep shooting deer in a densely populated community like Tega Cay and have an effect.”

This coming form someone who obviously does not understand that without a commensurate natural predator population in the area to keep the deer population under control, what you get is a population explosion of deer.

And that's NOT good for many reasons, including for the deer themselves.

The next available predator to keep the deer population under control is man...and it WILL happen, whether by hunting limit adjustments or by vehicular traffic on the roads, they can take their pick.

I guarantee if a few of these people have to have insurance payouts for repairs/totaling of their vehicles and medical costs for injuries due to deer collisions, not to mention all the dead/wounded deer they're so concerned about, they'll see the light.

If CWD gets started there, it will thin out the herd starting in about a year. As densely packed as these deer seem to be, it would spread like wildfire. Then the residents can clean up the infected dead deer from their yards.

I think they should import some coyotes or wolves to take care of the problem. Perhaps a mountain lion or two would also be a good idea. I bet the Karens and tree huggers would love that. Can you imagine a family gathering by the picture window to watch a pack of wolves kill and eat a doe. It would be educational. The dog catcher would be out of a job since there would be few stray dogs and cats around. The residents may not like having to put food out for the predators after the deer numbers are greatly reduced. I am sure all the young children would love to be serenaded by a pack of song dogs each night before they go to sleep. It is most soothing.

My thoughts exactly. Can you imagine the horrified looks on the Karen’s faces to see that many zombie deer walking around.

Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains had a deer population problem a while ago. There were deer everywhere. There was a distinct brouse line in all the wooded areas. One year it seemed as if the deer were very skinny and had malformed antlers. The deer were almost all gone by the next year.
