In my area (west Lexington County South Carolina), since Hurricane Ian came through, the deer vanished. I hunt a smaller parcel but was still getting a dozen or more deer a day for several hours on my corn pile.

The high winds basically shook down all the acorns which I know they want more than the corn but not only that, there’s very little deer sign at all. It’s like they bedded down for the storm and never came back.

There’s a freshwater creek on the back on the parcel and I have found a few signs of travel but again nothing like the herd that was moving through up until a few weeks ago.

Any ideas? I’d harvested one deer earlier in the season and haven’t been hunting it to death, just adding corn every so often to keep them around which was working

I’m really at a loss since this has never happened before and all I know (which isn’t much) is self taught. Anything I can do besides just wait it out and let nature refill the void ?

Be patient they will be back around.Lots of early food sources right now ,plus early does coming in and cool weather changing there patterns.Lots of variables but one thing is for sure when the food gets scarce they will look for an easy meal.Good luck

They will definitely get back on the corn. Corn brings doe, does bring bucks.

Stay with it, it always changes.

Although I have seen more acorns this year than in the past many years.

The creek will always produce because they always need water. Whether they are dining on acorns, browse or corn.

Still deer here, hit one with my new truck last week. Damage won't bad. But apparently it was enough to kill it, my brother rode by a few hours later and she was laying there.

Still seeing them here in groups in fields. Probably just change there habits a bit or found other food sources for the time being.

They’ll come back around. Happens every year here when the acorns fall. They disappear but when the acorns are gone or rot, they come back.

If you have a known trail like the creek, try feeding a few yards off it. I cut the end out of a peanut butter jar and screw the lid to a tree. Deer can’t resist.
