Defending Property

For all,

I want to point out that you can have all the opinions you like, but the truth is the state law that governs you will dictate the rest of your future as a "free" man if you act outside of its bounds. The general statue is only a google search away. You owe yourself to read them and incorporate them in your life.

After seeing your post, I went back up at mine and reread it. I discovered that I typed something that I didn't mean to type regarding an intruder's intentions so I edited that post.

If it is obvious to me that a thief is a thief and nothing more, and that person is not in a position to harm me or my family and/or is attempting to flee my presence, then we are certainly not going to fire any weapons at that individual.

On the other hand, if I, or anyone else inside my household, catches someone using force to enter, while we are occupying the residence, and they're not stopping with the sight of a firearm(s) bearing down on them, then good luck to them is all I can say.

Wow I wouldn't have guessed so many people here would be leftist in their views.

Should they have their hands removed if they are caught?

My father in law has 16 felonies and is facing another. He has 28 convictions altogether. He should have lost a hand many years ago.

This is not a discussion of the law, its a discussion on beliefs, I believe it's ok to kill a criminal, I'm not saying I'll shoot someone stealing my TV, I'm saying I should be able to by law.

This is my stance on your point.

I had to seperate what I think is right with what I am judged with. I have learned along time ago that every bit of information I consume, I use at some point in my life. When the chips are down, I am scared and shaken, I want the right data running between my ears. Assumptions mixed in with hopes and wishes is garbage data. I do not want to jeopardize my freedom and not live with my family over some slack a$$ thief.

It's not being soft, or a leftist views, its being real and having the discipline over one's information that is directed to a real goal. To be a true protector of my family, not some dad locked up over blasting a person. What good am I then?

So you can't separate the two things, I understand that. That's very professional of you.

No leftist views coming from this guy. My posts above were detailing my stance dealing with the issue according to law. I have no desire to spend the rest of my life in prison over an inanimate material object. Do I agree with the law? Absolutely not. Being the victim of a major corporate embezzlement case, I can certainly relate to this subject and the emotions and rage that comes with such a crime.

I can separate talking with someone i know vs putting info on open source data location that anyone can join with a email. I am not wanting to help a prosecutor do their job by printing a forum topic and my written word...

If I'm not mistaken this is what we are all saying, not that we wont do our upmost to obey the law.

My written word is I dont agree with the law but am not going to break it. I also dont agree with income tax but still pay it.

I see a lot of ya'll talking about how the old time punishments would deter criminals. They do not. Back when pick-pocketing was a hanging offense, the best time for a pickpocket to steal was at the hanging of another pickpocket because everyone let their guard down.

The severity of punishment doesn't deter criminals nearly as much as the likelihood of getting caught. Ideally, you have both high arrest rates and severe punishments.

That said, I hate thieves. I've been stolen from enough times that I know very well what it feels like to have your hard earned property taken away to feed someones drug/alcohol/gambling habit. If it were up to me, thieves could be shot by the property owner on sight, but that's not the law of the land.

It could be. (Only half joking) to make it so, remove all politicians by any means necessary, eliminate and nullify ALL existing laws, start over and write new ones.

If people were only willing to see the power they truly have and be willing to use it, the nonsense today could be ended very quickly.

If you kill a thief, murderer, or rapist, guess how many more people they victimize. It's not about deterrence, it's about justice and consequences.
