I didn't bother to watch the vid at first, but I finally did. Looking past the usual hoplophobia, he said something about O.C. not accidentally killing a kid.
I've got news for you, bud: not only can that happen, but if deployed nationwide, it WILL happen.
Just off the top, WebMD says 5% of kids have a food allergy. Couldnt find specifics about allergic to peppers, but there's gonna be a few in that 5%.
WebMD also says 8.4% of kids have asthma. This is a more substantial danger. The chances of death from OC increase dramatically if asthma is a factor.
Let an asthmatic kid get hit accidentally and all hell breaks loose.
The OC delivery type used is of concern, too. Foams (like in the video) or streams are far less likely to irritate a bystander.
But actual sprays or fogs can clear out a gymnasium. These types would render at risk kids even more vulnerable, depending on severity of allergy/asthma, because they could be up to 20 or 30 feet away and still be contaminated.
This proposal wont go anywhere because NOONE is willing to accept ANY risk where a kid is concerned.
All that said...OC is better than the bucket of rocks in the back of class the dude (?) from Pa (?) proposed. Id support OC in the classroom. On the teachers person. Not in some 'break to open' thing.
