Deputy assigned to Florida school 'never went in' during shooting

And yet an unarmed 16 yo JROTC kid in uniform steps up and helps evacuate as many classmates as he can before he is killed ... shows who understood an oath (even if that young man had not officially take it).

The day of the shooting news outlets were reporting 2 school resource officers and the question of where were they. Now all of a sudden like the question is answered just like i knew it would be. That guy was thinking "close to retiring, dont get paid enuff for this B.S." just like the cops at the nightclub massacre.

Why isn't this deputy being charged with a crime? Just think there are bunch of people in this country that think the cops will protect them.

What would you charge him with? Government courts have made it absolutely clear that government agents have no legal duty to protect and cannot be held liable even for a conscious decision not to protect you from crime.

I'm just waiting for the apologists to come into the thread and argue about pistol vs rifle and ask why we hate the police....

WHAT THE F&^% OVER? This really pisses me off. The sheriffs dept and the FBI really screwed the pooch on this one and now we are paying the price!

For any of us innocent of any wrongdoing in this case to pay the price requires each and every one of us to grant our personal consent to be punished for a crime we did not commit by compliance with whatever new rule, law, or regulation gets dreamed up by the most corrupt group of criminals in the country.

I am both innocent and Free and intend to stay that way.

But you too must choose. Each of us must choose.

I would like to charge him with criminal negligent manslaughter.

Part of the job, of being a cop is that you should be willing to die to protect the public. If any are unwilling to do this, find a new line of work.

It's so sad, that the majority of people believe that the police will help them, when in all reality, most cops will sit on side lines, happy being the after action force.

Y'all know I am a supporter of the police. No excuse - this is pure cowardice. I don't know what he could be charged with under Florida law, but I hope they find something. Maybe the sure to follow civil suits and shame will take care of this cretin.

How the hell can you just walk away from that? I don't have enough sense to not try and stop something like that. You may get me but I slowed you down slightly and that in itself would make a difference.

Waiting now for the story to be twisted by antis that will say "SEE...SEE?? MORE GUNS IN SCHOOLS DOESNT WORK! GET RID OF EVERY GUN NAO!!!"

This is my email signature. I felt it covered a lot when I was with the Tac Team and EMS…. and now, just generally with anyone who prepares like most of us on here….

“To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour.” Winston Churchill

It's sad when it rears its ugly head and innocent people pay the price for it.

Exactly. Scared to die??? Guess what, yer gonna die anyway, so take the risk that you go out in a blaze of glory and maybe save some kid's lives in the process. Be remembered as a hero, not a p*$$y wimp. This is what you were there for, not to bust some dumb kid with a bag of weed. You had two choices, and you made the wrong one. Now your hell is that you have to live with that for the rest of your life.

He could have radioed in he was having chest pains.

The Sheriff was incredibly successful in using the SRO's failure to distract attention from the Sheriff's Office's failure to act in a few dozen 911 calls to the shooter's house.

Well...the good sheriff actually suspended two other deputies for some kind of....something....related to 911 calls that day, in relation to how they acted or responded (or didnt) to the calls. Or something.

Yeah.

Fight, flee, or freeze is not an unexpected Human response to an active shooter situation. Sadly, this individual failed miserably at his appointed duties at that critical juncture.

I'm curious; is the school resource officer typically a permanent or rotating position within most LE departments?

Sure is funny this came out AFTER the big town hall meeting. I mean really WTF this would have made that a ship ton less about the actual gun.

Almost like it was planned that way, eh?

This sheriff is in full-blown protection mode now, deflecting anything and everything and blaming it on everyone but his own ass.

Not that I think he was responsible for this sicko going in and shooting up a school, but his department dropped the ballsack in numerous ways, some of which could have limited the actual damage had his people acted in other ways.

Yet, he goes on tv and screeches OMG NO ONE SHOULD OWN AN AR...!

Pussy.

Honest to God, my wife just showed this to me. I am so angry and disgusted I'm actually weeping. This is infuriating. I couldn't live with myself and told my wife I would leave my car to engage someone at my kids school. I'm sure others would too. And they guy that is paid to do that, does nothing. Disgusting, absolutely disgusting.

Here is some info on the SRO:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/b...g/fl-florida-shooting-sro-20180222-story.html

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5424549/Schools-armed-officer-never-went-shooting.html

  • Peterson is 6-foot-5-inch, started with the agency in July 1985, age 54, divorced father-of-four
  • Peterson had been a school resource officer at Stoneman Douglas since 2009
  • In 2014, Peterson was presented with the title of School Resource Officer of the Year for the City of Parkland District by the Broward County Crime Commission because he proved 'to be reliable in handling issues with tact and judgment
  • video shows Peterson arrive at Building 12, where most of the killing took place, and take position outside the school.

On a related note to Dept policy:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/21/us/police-security-florida-shooting.html?mtrref=www.google.com

Sheriff Scott Israel said that, to his knowledge, deputies followed protocol and did not wait for specialized teams to arrive before going into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. But he said that details over the office’s response remained unclear.

“That’s exactly what we’re examining,” Sheriff Israel said, noting that active shooter protocols require confronting suspects as quickly as possible. “You don’t wait for SWAT, you get in, and you push toward the shooter.”

Mindset. If it's just you against the shooter, I can see fear being a factor. But, when innocents are dying, fear becomes secondary and real men rush in where others fear to tread. This is where decent men are hailed as heroes, but when asked, say they were only doing what they had to do.

This man apparently failed Active Shooter training. The shame he now bears will follow him the rest of his life.

Don’t fry me to hard but I don’t think the FBI was more than slightly to blame with the follow up on internet posts when you look at the level of reports filed with the LEOs (sheriff and PDP) from ex-girlfriend & her friends, classmates, neighbors and others over almost 2 years. Words posted under a screen name on another person’s YouTube or such with little to no specifics are more common and I bet the FBI gets a pile of them everyday. The real lack of policing is the specific threats texted to the ex and her then boyfriend. The actions that had occurred and documented ... he was expelled from that school for his fighting and threats. The general behavior reported by others and his statements all of which had a specific known name and face attached to them. Yes, the FBI was informed but to me the locals are who really dropped the ball here ... a couple dozen reporting from more than 2 or 3 people ... somebody’s got some ‘splainin’ to do locally to me more than the Fed level.

Absolutely. According to the highest court in the land, he did nothing wrong at all.

The crap going on in this country is mind-numbing. I will also say that if I was a parent of a student killed or injured in a school shooting, I'd be hiring the most expensive law firm I could afford to sue the school administrators, school board, county, and state.

These school systems better get their act together and finally put an end to this gun free zone mentality. Not only schools but all of the other gun free zones out there.

Guns are never going away......ever. Just as illegal drugs are never going away.....ever. The sick and twisted liberals in this country are eventually going to be forced to realize that fact.

What a pathetic excuse for a cop.

But on the other hand there seems to be a lot of advocates for thought police on here lately.

Go read the official Sandy Hook report. I started to read it. Then I got to the part where the first officer on the scene arrived within minutes, then stayed outside for six more minutes waiting for backup to arrive before attempting entry. I couldn't read any more.

When lives are in imminent peril, call 911 and let the police handle it. Right.

An extreme and terrible example of what happens when people abdicate their responsibilities, including their own safety, to government.

As I said yesterday, in this state you and almost everyone else are legislatively prohibited from having tools that would enhance your ability to protect yourself by assholes that hide behind armed guards.

Of course the thin blue line is also letting this guy hide behind a line of armed guards.

Dereliction of duty to begin with, unfit for position and unwillingness to fulfill oath.

Those are just the first, foremost charges I would levy against Mr. Peterson.

I could relate an almost exact scenario involving a Trooper, Jim Skeins who stood by while 3 other Troopers attempted to subdue a highly agitated and drugged suspect. The suspect was armed and had shot 2 of the responding Troopers and was holding the gun to the head of the third. He stood by and took no action, never even drew his weapon. Another Trooper finally arrived and shot the suspect dead. Mr. Skeins was terminated on the spot and his gun, badges and ID's were also taken from him. He was driven home in the back of a patrol car and had moved within 24 hours, abandoning his home and family never to be heard from again.

Mr. Peterson's ordeal has just begun..... He would be better off to go sideways.... No department needs a coward....
