Deputy assigned to Florida school 'never went in' during shooting

So....as if the egregious nature of this failure in government and law enforcement couldn’t possibly reveal much more (and the gun as the proxy to cover up such malfeasance), 2 years ago Broward County Sheriff was accused of corruption (hired a bunch of his top donors to PR eposts in the department for doing good publicity and paid them with public funds) responded thusly:

"What have I done differently than Don Shula or Abraham Lincoln or Martin Luther King, Gandhi? Lions don't care about the opinions of sheep.”

https://reason.com/blog/2018/02/23/broward-county-sheriff-scott-israel-accu

People keep asking when is enough, enough? I think it’s the right question, just being asked about the wrong subject (guns).

This whole mess has me confused. I'm still confused about the Vegas fiasco. But this terrible school shooting has me even more confused.

Those poor kids in that school getting shot at and murdered by a Frankenstein that liberalism produced. A chance to survive was present. Yet, the person that could have stopped the monster decided to wait it out while innocent kids were slaughtered.

Perfect example of government failure at it's finest. We have a lot of sick, mentally ill criminals in this country. Quite a few reside in DC and many more reside in our state, county, and city governments. True enemies of the USA.

Exactly, which is why the powers that be are so hell-bent on creating a nation full of them.

Not so easy to deal with other lions, that also have teeth, fangs and claws.

I'm seeing that three other BSO stayed outside as well. When a neighboring department showed up they were outside hiding behind vehicles and stayed outside even after the other department went in.

Why is his prioritizing going home safe at the end of his shift anathema in this case but in the thousands of other questionable actions it’s talked about like it’s alright?

Interesting question that you posed. It has captured my attention and making me think. Don't have a good response and may not ever have one. But thank you for making me think.

The police have no duty to protect you. Repeat that a few times, then remember that they have no duty to protect you, and their bosses want to take your guns.

The day of the shooting news outlets were reporting 2 school resource officers and the question of where were they. Now all of a sudden like the question is answered just like i knew it would be. That guy was thinking "close to retiring, dont get paid enuff for this B.S." just like the cops at the nightclub massacre.

I disagree with you. It isn't a retirement thing, it's a heart thing, I bet he would have responded the same way when he first started. I've had the "you really need rethink your career path before you get hurt or you get someone hurt" talk with more than one officer. Because of their inability to use any force, let alone the appropriate and necessary amount of force. Wish I had a way of determining two things with officers, first knowing the ones that will use excessive force. Second the ones that will not use force when necessary. Sometimes it's easy to see when putting them through decision making training, but most of the time it's hidden until the officer is in a live situation. Both types are detrimental to the law enforcement profession. Like mentioned in other post, SROs aren't necessarily selected because they show the ability to use tactics and force appropriately.

If that was his thought process, it's indicative that he did not give a damn. Problem is, he wasn't retired yet. You can stop giving a damn when you pull out of the parking lot for the last time and not until, but while you are still employed and being paid, you gotta do your f*ing job.

Yeah...it's good if you get to go home safe, but that just may not be in the f*ing cards. Nothing wrong with fear...it's healthy and a perfectly normal human emotion to feel when sh*t's falling apart, but if it causes paralysis and prohibits you from doing your duty, it becomes a huge f*ing problem.

Set that sh*t aside, lock it up, do what you gotta do and you can think about it later. If you aren't capable of doing that, time to find another line of work.

It's called 'public safety/service', not 'self-preservation'.

This is a really good reason why it’s folly to assume the posse is going to save you and why anyone who is willing to do so should be armed even in “sensitive” places. Given the unique characteristics of some of these places, chiefly crowds of erratic innocents, I don’t necessarily have an issue with requiring extra training, or even periodically requiring to keep the skills sharp. I do have a problem with assholes like John Faircloth, my idiot state rep and authoritarian, telling me that he’s allowed to be armed but the rest of us aren’t.

Bottom line is you don’t know who it may be that saves the day in a crisis but taking that ability away from us, especially to falsely feel safe, is just plain stupid.

My forefathers fought to keep this country free from tyranny and oppression and I'm under obligation to make sure it remains for the generations coming after me.

Part of this obligation is to look after my fellow man. This is the way I live. This is who I am. Doesn't matter where I'm at or what pc of property I'm own. I have the right to bear arms and will do so.

The bottom line is the head sheriff and his department failed at every avenue to prevent and intercede in the shooting. Then he has the nerve to come to a CNN broadcast and rail on the NRA spokesperson. The shooter is to blame but the secondary blame lies in the inactions county sheriff office

The whole nation’s law enforcement has taken money from Homeland Security funds to train and taken money to create military type equipment for this very scenario. And yet they fail to adequately respond in many of these cases. It’s like people who play paint gun war games but ask them to serve in the US military and they want no part of it.

It's not uncommon for officers to pull in 10-15K in overtime and off-duty money. They work all weekend then show up Monday morning to the high school exhausted and overworked, add in a cocktail of a lot of School Resource Officers being retired on the job, looking for steady hours and the selection process for SRO's is geared toward communication and soft skill sets. Most SRO's are adept at counseling, mediation and navigating the parents, teachers and administration. However put a tactical incident on them and they are LOST.

The tactically minded SRO's are limited to carrying only their handguns and wearing soft body armor to appear more friendly and approachable. Though certainly willing and capable of entering a school shooting scenario they are not being provided the best tools available to protect our kids.

And... at least one proves to be a coward.

I'm not surprised that they are investigating more deputies. Seems to me that the Sheriff has trained his entire dept to look the other way anytime they are called.

I'm not really going to bash the LEO. Just because he wears a badge doesn't mean he has that kind of personality. We all say that we would do something different. You will never know what YOU will do until that times arises.
I believe in my heart that I would have went in. but Dont throw stones until you have been in his shoes.
I know men that are great fathers, husband and all around guys that in my opinion wouldn't have went in. Everyone is not built do go into situations where there's a greater chance of dying.
A lot of women who have went into also. My wife, the greatest women I have ever known who have sat there and cried. With that I would have no issue, that's who she is.

This is true but don’t take the job if you are not willing to perform after taking the oath. I would not rush in like a cowboy after hearing a hundred shots but I would not be hidings out back.

Officer should have gone in with gun firing. Whether he hit the roach or not is immaterial. He'd draw the focus of the shooter and buy time for the kids. That's his damned JOB as well as his moral responsibility.

He didn't need to drop the perp, he just needed to re-focus his attention till help arrived.

Instead he's just a sniveling coward and kids died.

Every level of government failed those kids.

Being bestowed with powers above that of others (something I’ve spoken out against) comes with responsibility beyond that of others.

The good Sheriff Isreal was on CNN today saying while the killer was in the building only the student resource officer was on site. He deflected the questions as to the other officers not going in that stayed behind cars.

He stated his office has “amazing leadership”, meaning himself I would guess. After diverting to banning AR rifles he is again a focal point. Broward County is a chartered Florida county, one of 20 that has recall powers for seven reasons. One is absence of duty. But to recall the official has to have served no less than one fourth of his term. Florida citizens are wanting him out. He has spent two days now slamming his resource officer to deflect his failure to prevent the shooting and employees enter the building. He also stated he will not resign. Lets hope his career in law enforcement is over.

"To Protect and Serve" is false advertising. This slogan should be removed from all police cars.
Correct. False and misleading slogan
Warren v. District of Columbia - The court ruled that police do not have a specific duty to provide police services to individual citizens.

David Hoggs the teenager from the high school who has been all over the media, and leading a crusade for new gun laws has called on college students to boycott Spring Break in Florida and tourist to stop coming to the state until the Florida legislators intact stricter gun measures.

First of all students like to talk a big game but when it comes to smoking weed, sex, and drinking they ain’t gonna let nothing interfere with fun in the sun. Better to try that on an Asheville crowd with rainbow T-shirt’s. Florida is the land of vacation fun. All these snowflakes from snowflake states will talk a big game but when it comes to warm climate vacations, they will come in masses.

If I owned a media station and heard that talk from David Hoggs he would not get a microphone in his face even a single time. That kind of talk is a state revenue destroyer. Now instead of the will of the people to elect law makers, here is a kid attempting to shut down the largest industry in the state to force his views.
