There are appraisals, usually for insurance purposes, and there are actual cash offers to buy them. I assume you are looking for the former?

I'd ask a jeweler for a good independent appraiser.

Yes, preferably an independent one, not a chain, that has been around for a long time.

Do not leave them to be looked at and make sure they do it while you watch. Some people have been known to switch stones on the unaware. I used to work in a pawn shop and unless the diamond was a 1/4 carat or larger they threw them away when scrapping jewelry. Most bling stores mark pieces up 800-1000% over cost that is how you see jewelry stores offer such great sales all the time. The majority of the time the setting is worth way more in melt value than the stones. If you want to see the real market value for presious stones see the sold listings on ebay. Now an insurance appraisal is a different matter altogether.

These are some I've ended up with that were in with my scrap silver. I'll probably sail them. I usually just pry them out & scrap the setting. But a couple of these are good rings. The larger stone is a Platinum setting & i've never dealt with platinum. I don't know any jewelers I'd trust around here & wouldn't leave them with anyone.

I have a fellow I deal with and trust/will vouch for.
    Pm sent if interested.

Good advice listed above. Never let a decent stone leave your sight in a store... Only takes a second...

If you don’t mind a drive Morrison Smith on Providence has a great reputation and have beeen around for a very long time. I used them when I had an engagement ring built around a family stone.

Multiply .15 times what you paid and that is what they are worth.
