Tyler Watson, a 20-year-old Oregonian, settled his age discrimination lawsuit last month against Dick’s Sporting Goods. In February, the retailer changed its firearms policy, raising the minimum age to buy a gun to 21.

Lawyers for both Watson and Dick’s declined to comment, saying the settlement details are confidential.

Oleske said it’s unusual that Dick’s hasn’t changed its policy as a result of the settlement.

“Any other individual could go into any one of their stores, attempt to make a purchase and if they’re turned away bring a lawsuit,” he said. “The question is, why is Dick’s settling?”

I imagine they are settling because the policy becomes moot when they stop selling firearms of any kind.

The suit against Walmart becomes the watershed case.

My guess is that they threw a number up against the wall, they got lucky and it stuck. Cheaper in the long run, and maybe the kids lawyers weren't up to the task of a long drawn out financially draining law suit and made overtures to be done with it. Win/Win. For Dicks and the lawyers.

Now they kick back and wait to see what happens with Wally.

Why aren't all the advocacy groups we join and donate to all over this? The full force and awesome power of the NRA? They should be asshammering the lawyers for Dicks and Wally in to submission. Why aren't they?

Again, another guess is that it will be found that Wally is OK limiting who they sell to. I hope I'm wrong.

Why spend money and time defending something your getting out of? The nature of lawsuits also have a high potential for unexpected consequences. So, if some money can make it go away cleanly and neatly, then be done with it.

The state had learned that racket with traffic.

Call it a safety issue and extort money to make it go away cleanly.

Hey, this means that there is a window for 18-21 year olds to got to Dick's, get refused, and sue. Payday! Need money for college?

Normally I wouldn't think of twisted stuff like that, but with all the 2A attacks...

Can't get refused for something that isn't there to buy. I mentioned in an earlier thread that the "Lodge" at one Dick's I went into is gone. No guns, no ammo.

This should help their business out even more than the stock price kick in the crotch and same-store sales numbers. Goodbye Dick's! I called it a few years ago when they were QUICK to jump on the 'Sandy Hook' bandwagon.

I meant for all those that haven't dumped guns & ammo yet. Extracting revenue is a fitting punishment.
